Job opportunities to become available within ICT sector

The Dominican community is being advised to get prepared for the opportunities that will arise through the  Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

Parliamentary secretary in the office of the Prime Minister Kelver Darroux told Parliament during the budget debate that the sector will create several employment opportunities for Dominicans.

“Within the next three years, we will see coming on stream, several jobs within the sector. I speak of network administrators, software developers, database technicians and computer programmers…” he said.

According to Darroux, it is imperative that the people are ready for these jobs when they become available.

“That is why the ICT Department will work closely with the Ministry of Human Resource to ensure that when students are sent to study, that they won’t just study Accounting and Business. We have to ensure that they are trained in ICT so when they return they will be able to find a job within that sector,” he added.

Technology is growing and it must be ebraced as an industry that will make both businesses and users more effective and will definitely be a job creator in Dominica,
We will need to educate a segment of the population who will be able to keep those systems running smoothly, we will need instructors who will be on the cutting edge of the industry who can transition smoothly, As Dominica embraces new technology we will find that mobility will be common place for users as they work thus becominig more effective, the internet as you know it is not limited to the use of land lines, infact as I respond to this article I am doing it remotely with my usb mobile card connected to the internet. The minister is right, it will be a step a right in the right direction.

    Chris
Thanks for trying to make Dcan understand. Knowing them they still will not understand. Most of Dcan are not on that level of understanding. Proper Education is the key for moving DA.

O my god the minister does not understand the meaning of ICT ,to me he is like functional ilitrate.
Our people have to be ICT litrate first our education system have to take on that task . ICT now is so wide in spactrum, it can be used in any field. First of all our youth need to have disiplaned like those Indians and chinese in work ethic and productive, other wise no company will come in. THIS INFORMATION IS FOR THE MINISTERS IN THE GOVERMENT,WHAT I AM GOING TO WRITE NOW IS THE POLICY OF THE GOVERMENT OF MAURITUS WHERE IN 2005 ONLY 2000 PEOPLE WERE EMPLOYED AND WHEN THE GOV OF THAT COUNTRY CHANGE THE POLICY IN 2009 THE ICT SECTOR EMPLOYES 29000 PEOPLE ,FOR SMALL COUNTRY WITH THE POPULATION OF 1,2 MILLION . Our goverment need first create a ICT park were it should be a turn key operation and companys coming in that park should get complete dutyfree and vatfree customs charge free in equipments, then they will have to get income tax free for seniror executive and cooprate tax should be 15% and also they should be aloud to repatriate the profits, electrictcity should be provided at a concetion rate While they are getting all these benifits how it will benifit dominica. First of all at least 1000 people can get employes in a medium scale company and remember dominican are not trained in that field, to train 1200 people it cost at least us$ 800 each and after being trained the company is not sure if people will stay and work for a year for company to recover the money, so that is also there investment, also if a second or the third company comes in u are talking about a rat rase in staff they will jump from one ot the other that is why the first few company that comes in should get those benifits. when 1000 dominican are employed you are talking about minmum salary of ec$ 1500 that means 1.5 million salary for da people a month and 18 milion a year and when that money serculates in the economy you know how much vat will be collected by the state that 18 million can generate at least 4 million cause that money changes hand many times so even if it does not change hands still state can collect 2,7 million that is just one company imagine if 3 company like that size company come in da.
FOR LAST GOVERMENT SHOULD HAVE A CLEAR CUT POLICY ON ICT INVESTMENT LIKE MAURITUS.
AGAIN I REMENBERED LAST YEAR FDI (FORIGENE DIRECT INVESTMENT) IN THAT COUNTRY FOR 2009 WAS US$ 47.6 BILLION. MR MINISTER THINK AND ACT UPPON THE FREE IDEA I GAVE YOU
