(Trinidad) Facebook users to pay for their defamatory posts

A woman who published defamatory posts on her facebook page about a family will soon have to pay compensation.

On Monday, the statements made by Jenelle Burke were ruled to be libelous and caused “shame and embarrassment” as  they were false and were possibly exposed to thousands of people.

The offending statements suggested that the family was engaged in incestuous activities.

    Good news for the defamed. We only know how it feels when it comes home or close to home. Well done, Trinidadian judge. Unfortunately, the stink will not leave the minds of some of the people who read the post, as so many are eager to believe the worst of people as soon as they hear it without giving the benefit of the doubt.

    @ Smily and Kermit, Dominicans are not the only one doing it, people from wherever doing the same that is why Facebook HQ in the UK were told by the British government steps out of line and face a hefty fine, You too can do the same especially to a disgusting so-called political party.

    Dominicans post almost any and everything on facebook. Can on imagine how eager I am to welcome that in Dominica.

    I glad DNO published that article. We must do that in Dca as well. Dominicans are very troublesome people on that Facebook.
