Position and projected path of Grace on Monday morning

Dominicans have been told that they should monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Grace, which formed in the Atlantic over the weekend.

The system is expected to be near Dominica on Friday.

The Dominica Met Office said at 5:00 am on Monday, the center of the storm was located near latitude 13.5 North, longitude 33.9 West.

Grace is moving toward the west near 16 mph.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.

Little change in strength is forecast during the next day or so followed by gradual weakening thereafter, according to the Met Office.

Dominica is still recovering from the effects of Tropical Storm Erika which devastated sections of the island.

How can the met be blamed. Did they have control over Erika movement? Was it their decision as to the amount of water Erika poured over Dominica? Did they change the terrain of Dominica? As we all know the country is mountainous therefore the water came down with its force. Not only did we ignore the lessons handed down by our grand and great grand parents by collecting water when it rains because there might be problems with the water system but we are loosing respect for nature by building wherever we want. Take a good look at the island and become wiser.

You’re right – they could not change anything; they cannot. But at least the warning would have caused us to take some action; buy some food and water etc.

Take a look at intellicast.com and see the even Guadeloupe had a tropical storm warning.

Why do we Dominicans always ready to ascribe blame to others, even for things which they have no control over, like accurately predicting weather conditions.

Let me thank the Dominica Met Office for this update. I am sure that they mean well, but following this year’s hurricane season, I will give full support to a shaking-up of the Met office. The warnings we should have received ahead of TS Erika were sadly missing from the Met Office. Whether they are operating with sub-standard equipment or sub-standard officers, we just cant allow this state of affairs to continue.

Some people live to project their own inadequacies on other. Blame is the bread they offer.
