A Kiddies Fair is being touted as one of the highlights of a Family Fun Day which formed part of activities commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the official establishment of the Kalinago Territory in Dominica.

The Family Fun Day, held last weekend, was organized by the Kalinago Indigenous Nation Developers (K.I.N.D).

One feature of the event was the Wikibuli Kiddies’ Fair and according to the organizers, for children and families who attended the Kalinago Family Fun Day, the fair “was likely a memorable experience”.

According to a release from Wikibuli Communications Inc which organized the event, ‘Tin Can Alley’, ‘Go Fish’, ‘Coconut Shy’, ‘Hoop La’, ‘Ball in the Bucket’ and ‘Splat the Rat’ were some of the games which brought smiles to the faces of hundreds of children at the event.

The releae goes on to state that as a follow-up to Wikibuli’s Kiddies’ Quarter Carnival held earlier this year, the kiddies’ fair which took place on the Jolly John Memorial Park, provided a safe, fun-filled activity day for children of all ages.  It says children as well as adults participated in games and won an assortment of prizes.

The event also included a smoke ceremony conducted by Carib Indian Tribal Queen Catherine Hummingbird Ramirez, an entertainment display by Jaguar Extreme Sports, cultural performances by local youth groups and face-painting sponsored by Wikibuli.  Event Coordinator, Charlene Elizee says, “The Kalinago Family Fun Day was great. Generally, there is not much happening here, no [recreational] parks or playgrouds; not much for kids to look forward to. ..the fair was the first of its kind in the Kalinago Territory, and despite the weather, many families participated in what was a very successful event.”

According to Ms Elizee, the fair was a good initiative to bring families together in one setting, and for young children to socialise in a manner that’s conducive to the development of their heritage and culture.

All proceeds from the Wikibuli Kiddies’ Fair will be donated to the Kalinago Indigenous Nation Developers.
