A Fond Cole youth was stabbed to death last night in Pottersville, Roseau.
Justin Joseph died at Princess Margaret Hospital from a single stab wound to the chest.
A Pottersville man, who has been hospitalised, is alleged to be the killer. He is under police guard.
Reports are that an ongoing feud between the two may have triggered the incident which occurred in the vicinity of a bar.

After reading many of these posts I am ashamed to be called a Dominican. I didn’t know Justin but to his family and friends my condolences go out to you. No one deserves to die this way. No matter what or who that person is.
I also sympathize with the family of Shane because (no matter how we may want to see it)the family of this young man is suffering too. Having said this if he is found guilty of murder then he has to face his penalty however instead of playing the blame game, bashing one another and leveling so much hate we should all come together to fight crime to help the young people because it seems as if the only way young persons can solve conflicts is by use of weapons.
If we do not get to the root of this problem our country is headed down wards.

i am a firm believer in you do the crime you do the time…. but with that said… i also believe that jail time is not always the answer. There needs to be some kind of rehabilitation for our ” youth” who are supposed to be the future of our land. when you jail someone for a crime and release them after time served…. you have only served a temporary justice. By that I mean, the criminal comes out the same as they have entered….. with the same mentality. The system needs to impose something whereby a criminal goes through a counselling program while serving time and also upon release. People can reform and change their ways of thinking and become an asset to society. Sending someone to jail alone does not solve the crime problem. It’s like putting a bandage on a wound without treating it. Covering up something so to speak so that it cannot be seen…. but doesnt mean it isnt there. I do however sympathise with any and all families who have to go through this pain. I being a parent would not ever want to have to bury my child. It’s a haunting thing. I am not on the side of anyone as I do not even know who Justin or Shane is. I am objectively speaking. Parents who have lost their children throught any kind of injustice… have to trust in the lord especially at this time…. that he will see them through this. Steve please tell me what on earth the government has to do with this? This young mans’ death was caused bu sheer ignorance and a lack of respect for human life. It shows how lost our society has become, and then fact thet we need to reform the way we train our children. The state of the hospital is not the issue here. While we can all agree that there are improvements to be made, it is most certainly not the hospitals’ fault that he died.
We need to be less politically minded and deal with the real issues. We tend to glorify the gangsters and criticize t! law.

Firstly R.I.P to the family of the guy who died. Everyone is giving their version of what happened. But who really knows what’s been going on? Why does a knife have to get involve in fights. Law enforcement and the relevant authorities seriously need to look at executing the death penalty on vagabonds who see murder as an easy way to solve problems. The law nowadays doesn’t operate on what is wrong or right but more on a whole bunch of technicalties. Someone could actually be quilty of a crime but be set free on the basis of some technicality and clever lawyer. That’s utter nonsense. Criminals are the ones who should be leaving in fear and not ordinary, law abiding citizens who because of violent crimes are fearful for their lives.
The death penalty must be strongly enforced to make persons think twice before their actions. But again many of our Caribbean countries have gotten their hands tied due to their reliance on aid from countries in the European Union which do not support the death penalty. So while the death penalty is still on our books, governments in the region are hesitant to use it for fear of financial aid being withheld.

When I was growing up I saw endless “he-gass”, hear ppl “take-out-maypwee” to settle their differences. These days things have taken a different twist. We are quick to pull out a weapon at the first sight of a dispute and we seem to have short fuses.
According to the famous Reggae Artiste Bob Marley “if we fight and run away, we will live to fight another day”. We need to teach that line to our children from a tender age and keep rubbing it into their heads. By fight here, we are talking about the “maypwee (speaking ur mind)” from yester-years.
The trend of losing our young men by the hands or other young men does not auger well for our country which is way on top to the “Happy Countries List”.

This is what happens when you allow criminals to roam the streets. These young people do analyze their environment and whats been happening lately. They can do their crime and get a slap on their wrist. If they get a lengthy sentence which is what (in my opinion) they deserve they can simply appeal the case and go home. Stop allowing chaos to reign over this once peaceful land. There is sociologically supposed to be a balance between order and disorder. If you allow disorder to get the edge what do you think will happen next? Vigilante justice will present itself to balance off the equation and the only result that will bring is more grieving mothers. I am begging the judicial body of this land to start doing its job properly and keep the criminals in jail. In case you still don’t understand, the less murderers on the streets, the less people that get killed.
Even if they get harsh sentences they will not stop killing or injuring other people. There are people serving years in prison. did that stop the other people from killing? no it did not. they are still killing and hurting others.

Nearly every C/bean country has seen a spike in crime, why do you think D/a will be any different? Small islands like St.Kitts and St.Lucia have been facing record murder rates, ultra-violent J/a set a new record last year with about 1600 murders.
We’ve got like 3 murders so far this YEAR = a very peaceful NIGHT in downtown Kingston. A few weeks ago this J/a taxi driver raped a 12 yr old girl, bashed her head in and buried her thinkin she was dead. She recovered and dug herself out of the grave and they caught the guy.
Do u hear about these acts of selfless violence against innocents being committed in D/a? Hardly ever. People need to stop exaggerating about the crime situation
