Soca Artist Ricardo Drue has died in his home country Antigua and Barbuda, sending shockwaves into the region and the world by extension.
Drue who reportedly died from a heart attack died just after noon on Tuesday. He was found at his home unresponsive and pronounced dead at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center a little later.
Drue was a dominant figure in the Soca Monarch and Road March scenes and had a significant following throughout the region.
He was the lead singer of the A-Team Band and was engaged to the Trinidad and Tobago soca sensation, Patrice Roberts. Some of his popular soca hits include “Vagabond” and “Professional”.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Festivals Daryl Matthew said the industry has suffered a great loss.
Meanwhile, entertainers from all over the region have used social media to express shock, condolences, and love to the family of Drue.
Fay Ann Lyons wrote, “Condolences to you and your daughter. May God give you strength. “
Destra Garcia said: “Condolences Patsy, I’m so sorry babe. Hard to tell you to stay strong at this time, this is a hard one! Prayers going up for you and Lilli. Drue darling, may you sleep in peace. You are already missed.”
Mical Teja said “My prayers go out to you and the family,” commented under Patrice’s post.
Local vlogger Jadee posted: “Sigh gosh Boy…My condolences Pats. May the Lord keep you and your family wrapped up in His arms for such a time as this.”
