Senior Cabinet minister is advocating that persons who commit rape should be castrated or even executed.
“I wish to register my anger against persons who commit such violent, reprehensible, detestable acts. In fact, I am rather draconian in my mindset on this. I’m from the old school, the old, old, old school,” said Environment and Natural Resources Minister Vaughn Miller.

In recent times we have seen many falses accusations, some where the accused men have been put in jail for years, only to find out the woman that accused him had been lying. Look at the famous case of Emmit Till for example. A young black boy who was accused of making a sexual advance upon a white woman. that boy was hung and tortured in front of everyone. Imagine scorn women making accusations just to get back at their lovers. Or little girls accusing the lovers of their mothers just to break up their relationships. the possibilities are there. The repercussions can be damning.
How about housebreaking?
This guy is spitting in the sky to sound concerned about the issue of sexual abuse in his country, but it will fall back in his eyes. When in “old, old, old school days was there executions for rape and sexual assault?. I’m sure that even if his warped wish was to come true it won’t be applied equally to all persons because the well positioned and privileged get away with violating the laws. Would he execute Catholic priests and nuns? Or the rich folks who violate women, men and minors? He’s making useless noise as far as I’m concerned.
there was castration.
These Ministers must be subject matter experts. Bro, not every conviction is correct. Be careful of being innocent and accused of Rape.
Rape is a heinous crime. Anyone found guilty of this particular crime should be severely punished. The crimes of rape, incest, unlawful carnal knowledge have become a horribly prevalent problem throughout our region. It is therefore imperative that the relevant authorities become relentless in trying to drastically curb these crimes.
Having said all that, to execute a person for rape shows the nature of rogue political elements occupying our legislature. Take a man’s life you should forfeit yours. I believe aggravated rape deserves lifetime imprisonment. No life is lost so why should the state take a life.
By definition, in order to support executing people, one must either believe (1) that in this one area, the criminal justice system never, ever makes mistakes, or (2) that it is acceptable to execute innocent people. The first is hopelessly naïve, the second is utterly barbaric.
@Foerster
Once it can be proven beyond ant doubt, i am totally for executing rascals who truncate the lives of innocent people, with no real reason to justify their actions!!
Hang their “azzes”!
What is all this about executing innocent people? Nobody executes innocent people. They were executed that is because they did commit the crime. Trying to avoid the gallows by saying I am innocent is not acceptable.
@ds, many people who were sentenced to death or prison terms have been exonerated after the trials were scrutinized. You must be living under a rock not to have heard of the numerous incidents in recent years. The legal system is not full proof. Jesus was sentenced to death, can you tell what crime he committed. ……..!!
Still, that does not mean that they did not do it. They did it but you have lawyers who will go the end of the road to find something clever which would necessitate a deep scrutiny or review or another trial to exonerate another criminal. These guys are afraid to get killed but not afraid to kill somebody. Have you ever noticed that? I guess you might say that OJ Simpson was definitely innocent. Right?
Failure to prove innocence is not proof of guilt.
This is the reason why I sometimes refer to most parliaments in the Caribbean as mental asylums where the inmates have refused to take their medication. Houses of lunacy. Many of these ministers are educated derelicts.
And who are you? An educated as. hole.
@Foerster
That’s yout take on the death penalty, and i respect it. My take is that it’s the ideal, deserving, real and just punishment for senseless, brazen, unjustified, etc killings!!
Castrating or executing rapists is a very tall order. But, with his self described “draconian” mindset, it would be very interesting to know what kind of punishment this Bahamian minister recommends for adultery, fornication, lying, and stealing of state resources by government ministers in particular and in the Caribbean in general. SMH!
Mister serious like a heart attack
!
But on a more serious note, because of the nature of the crime itself and how easy it is to accuse someone of the offense, and even harder for the accused to defend himself/ herself especially if they are innocent it is a no go on the execution. Not only that but if we as a Caribbean people choose to go this way there will be no “politicians” left to represent us especially in our beloved land
. They would all most likely be executed in 5 years
.
Now if he says all those convicted by primary evidence (no circumstantial) including DNA must be castrated in cases where minors are concerned I am in 1000000000% in support. Even if that leaves us with some coco-flow ex-politicians roaming our streets as vagrants or rouges and vagabonds I can live with that.
