Decomposing body found in Martinique believed to be that of missing Dominican

Peter Charles

Authorities in Martinique believe that a body, which was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, may be that of an elderly Dominican who was reported missing on the French island. The body was discovered face down last weekend by a hunter in a vacant lot in Foux à Chaux district, in Lamentin, French media has reported.

According to French police, the corpse fits the description of Peter Charles, an 80-year-old Dominican, who was reported missing in Martinique. Shreds of clothing also suggested that the body may be that of Charles.

An autopsy will be done to confirm the suspicions.

Charles, who was born in Grand Bay, was reported missing on August 2. Reports are that he was last seen at the Aimé Césaire Airport in Martinique where he was expected to take an airplane to Guadeloupe and then travel to Dominica. The octogenarian was at the airport in transit from London where he was visiting his wife who is being treated for cancer.

However, according to media reports from Martinique, he missed the plane after being arrested by the police over a “misunderstanding.” Not being able to speak French, it was difficult for Charles to be understood by the police and he was eventually released.

He disappeared soon after that and his luggage, with his papers and phone, was found at a gas station near the airport. When Charles did not arrive in Guadeloupe as scheduled, his family tried to contact him but was unable to and he was reported missing.

    we were very close.
Such a sad thing that happened to him.
The Martinique police is to be blame for his
    Death.
Mr.charles was capable of traveling by himself.
I cried so much no one shouldn’t die this way.
My heart goes out to his wife.
    May he Rest In Peace.
    A very sad situation.

Hello and good morning my people. First, I want to offer my condolences to the family of Mr Charles. Based on the article it appears that he was arrested but we don’t know why but we know that the Police lied to the family. Our Government should file a complaint against the French government at the United Nations to have an independent investigation into Mr Charles death. The Police used body cameras so let’s find out which officer arrested him and what Police Station they took him to . We should have some Dominica organization that could act as a local group to help find out what happened. When a foreigner die in Dominica they go in Fox News and demand an investigation so let us demand the same.

Yes my uncle was 80 but not incompetent, yes the flight was cheaper and he chose to this journey as he did it in the pass. The real questions are why was he arrested? Why take him all the way to the police station and not dealt with at the airport? Why was he not accompanied back to airport as they made him miss his flight? Why lie to us when we called and said they know nothing of a Peter Charles only to find out weeks after he was arrested, released and some mysterious person found his bag at a gas station with all his possessions including money of different currencies? Why not search then? Who is this mysterious person? Why not help in his search, why we had to print a missing persons and place them all over Martinique for us to get a search? Why refuse the radio station to state his disappearance? F… an international airport! They can’t confirmed it’s him, his poor wife has no idea until confirmed as this might destroy her. No human should die this way!!!

I am so sorry that you all are going through this. This is so disturbing on so many levels. I hope the family keeps speaking up on all social media platforms to make sure that you get answers that you deserve. Hire a PI and a lawyer. Make sure that they don’t cover this up. Praying for his wife. Jesus have mercy!

So no one finding what happened in Martinique suspicious?
The man was reported missing and the authorities who mistakenly arrested him never once said anything?
I’m so sorry for the family that he had to die like that. Unfortunately no one will be held accountable and now the family have to bury his remains with no clue as to exactly what happened. His already sick wife is probably grieving this so much.
My heart hurts for the family.

This is such a sad incident, why is Francisco making it one of humour. The man’s wife is receiving treatment for cancer, try to empathise…..why bring politics into such a tragic incident. 😥

You are so wrong; there is no humor in what I said. You actually blindfolded yourself deliberately to evade from what I conveyed.
You have ignored where I noted, if we long ago had an International Airport accommodating direct flights into Dominica, Charles might be yet alive.
How you conveniently missed that is beyond comprehension.
I have no hesitation to blame Roosevelt Skerrit for the inconvenience of international access into and out of the country.
You may not like the comments about Gordon and his music he believes is a contribution to the world, but you missed the point, which is if Martinique police could not understand Dominica patios which he may have spoken, who in Euphoria or North America, Africa and the Middle East even Russia, will understand Gordon patios music.
I am from Wesley, I can’t speak or understand a single word in patios,

My condolences! Why in Heaven’s name was this elderly man left o travel alone? At 80 years old, he should have been accompanied by someone, anyone. That said, to the Charles family, sorry for your loss.

You know there are people older than 80 years old traveling by themselves everyday, I know a lady 92 years old live alone does everything for herself, she has a home almost two hundred miles from Los Angeles, she drives herself from here home in Los Angeles to her other residence; without any difficulties.
It all depends on the health of the person. I had a relative from Antigua, she taught school at he Roman Catholic convent, at 86 years old she traveled to America and Canada by herself until she died three years ago.
Now those dumb people giving me thumbs, they they do not understand my argument which is simple: If there was an International Airport in Dominica, Charles would be alive today, because he might get on a flight in London, and flew direct to Dominica; if he was confused in Dominica, somebody would have understood his patios, if that was his problem in Martinique which I am sure it was.
No country should be as backward in the 22nd century as DA is!

Now, the late Charles perhaps didn’t have to die this way. We can relate his death to backwardness!
Here this man traveled from England, bypassed Dominica landed in Martinique; where he experienced be it police harassment and arrests and his demised.
He was scheduled to once again bypass, (fly-over) Dominica to Gaudalope, where anticipated getting a flight home to Dominica.
Had it not been for labor party; Roosevelt backwardness, Taking Ralph Gonzales advice not to build an International Airport in the country, that man would be alive; because by now there should be direct flights from London to Dominica.
So there is Amanda Gordon Henderson said his patios songs are a gift to the world, I need to asked him how come the police in Martinique could not understand the man from Grand Bay patios?
How can the world understand your patios music?
Martinique is less than a hundred miles South of Grand Bay!

Stupidest comment ever. If its from the grieving family they are excused. Otherwise, it is pure nonesense. This convuluted travel plan was made by the person booking the flight. There are direct flights from Gatwick airport to Antigua EVERYDAY. And flights from Antigua to Dominica. I am from DA and live in England. Furthermore if you are making travel plans for an elderly person you find the simpliest route. This has nothing to do with Skerritt or Gonzalves or international airport. Whoever booked this man’s flight either didn’t know what they were doing or perhaps it was cheaper.

        Hogwash, pathetic nonsense!
I do not suppose you are suggesting I am talking nonsense; unless you are suggesting the person (s) who made his travel arrangement are stupid!
Now I am sure I am not dumb, I have traveled the world, lived in Harlow Essex England; Cuxhaven West Germany, and Antigua too!
My father died in Wesley; I booked a fight to Dominica, from Los Angeles LAX the route took me to Miami, to Puerto Rico, on a flight to Dominica, which over flew Dominica: the distance from Los Angeles to Dominica is 3,741 miles; flying time is approx: eight (8) hrs.
It took me and my daughter nineteen hours to get there, had there been an International Airport on the island we could have got there in eight hours.
From Heathrow International to Dominica is 4,144 miles depending on the flying route a direct flight to Dominica can take ten (hours).
So, this crap you live in England does not impress me!
I lived on Potters Street Carters Mead Harlow; you see! the number is omitted.

Francisco is talking total rubbish. He is heartless and only concerned about his convoluted politics and hatred of Skeritt. The family has already said that they chose the cheaper option. International airport or not most people always look for the cheapest option, but Telemaque who seems to be a total idiot seems not to understand.

Something is seriously wrong with you. A man lost his life because of the negligence of the Martinique police force and you blaming your Prime Minister? I really hope Dominica request a full investigation done by an outside source not the Martinique police.
