‘Dedicated father, hard worker’: former Marpin and FLOW TV cameraman, Frederick Francis, to be laid to rest today

Frederick ‘Freddo’ Francis

Former Marpin 2K4 and Flow TV cameraman Frederick ‘Freddo’ Francis is being remembered by his daughter, Abigail Francis as a dedicated father who “always showed up for his family.”

Freddo who passed away at his residence in Riviere Cyrique on November 1st at the age of 64, will be laid to rest this afternoon.

The news of his death came as a shock to many, especially those who worked with him in the media.

“Our dad was the epitome of kindness and compassion. Our recollection of him would be that he was a dedicated father who always showed up for his family,” she told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview.

Francis also described her father as one of the hardest working individuals she knew.

“ For instance, out of the 30 years he worked, would you believe he took sick leave only once because he had no choice but to rest,” his daughter revealed. “That alone describes his dedication and commitment to his responsibilities.”

She continued, “His presence alone would light up the room, everyone knew he had a great sense of humor.”

Francis said her father will never be forgotten, “and his greatest reward he left us with was how to live our lives with integrity and dignity.”

She shared his favourite quote; “Don’t worry about me, I’m good”. And that, she said, will forever be their comfort.

“He is now our perfect angel,” Francis stated.

One of Freddo’s close friends and former co-worker at Marpin 2K4 FLOW TV, Edona Jno Baptiste said she was deeply saddened after receiving the news of his death and described him as someone with a big heart who was very supportive.

“I worked with Marpin for 8 years and when I entered the Marpin newsroom I was brought in as Acting News Editor at the time, Freddo was one of the employees in the newsroom who was supportive and we later developed a bond,” she stated. “Freddo had a big heart.”

Furthermore, Jno Baptiste noted that he was always willing to assist and share knowledge.

She also learnt a lot from Freddo about Marpin’s history.

She revealed that her last time communicating with Freddo was in September.

Jno Baptiste sends condolences to the family and friends of the late ‘Freddo’.

Meanwhile, Garvin Richards who also worked with Freddo for 15 years remembers him as a hardworking cameraman at Marpin 2k4.

“He was a very dedicated man, very professional and he cared a lot about his craft,” he explained. “He was one of those individuals where he always felt the need to go the extra mile and always made sure that things were done perfectly.”

Richards added, “He also spent a lot of time, not just improving himself, but also helping the younger ones who came along.”

He extended condolences, not just to his friends and family, but also to former coworkers at Marpin 2k4.

“He was a gentle soul, a lovable guy, no one ever had a problem with Frederick and he never had a problem with anyone,” Richards noted. “He was straightforward and he will be dearly missed.

Freddo will be laid to rest today (November 25). His body will be transported from the Lyndhurst Funeral home for viewing at 2:30pm at the Roseau Cathedral Chapel. The funeral mass begins at 3:00pm and will be followed by interment at the Roseau Catholic Cemetery.

The management and staff of Dominica News Online (DNO) extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Frederick ‘Freddo’ Francis.

I had the pleasure of working with Freddo over 20 years ago at Marpin. He was a very humble and jovial guy. I remember him always being so positive and cheerful,I never saw that man upset or not in good spirit. Condolences to Freddo’s family and friends. Wish him a peaceful journey to the after life.
