Dominica records second road fatality in under one week

Less than a week after Dominica recorded its first road fatality of 2023 in the southeast of the island, a 28-year-old Grand Bay man is the victim of the second fatal traffic accident of the year.

Dominica News Online (DNO) was reliably informed that on January 19, 2023, sometime after 5:00 PM, Kenneth Noel, the lone occupant of a black and silver Honda CRV, registration number PZ122, is said to have lost control of the vehicle under the Dubique cliff, collided on the embankment on the left side of the road and capsized on the rocks below.

At the time of the accident, he was heading toward Stowe.

Following the incident, Noel was found breathing but in an unresponsive state.

He was transported to the Grand Bay health centre by Fire and Ambulance personnel where he was examined and later transferred to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH).

Upon arrival, while receiving medical attention, the 28-year-old succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical doctor at about 7:32 PM.

Noel is said to have sustained internal injuries to his head, chest, and abdomen.

The police have since launched an investigation into the matter.

On January 14, 2023, Lyndel “Smiley” Hilaire, aged 27 of Delices, succumbed to injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident in an area known as Fond Toma in Delices.

DNO can you report on whether he was thrown out of the vehicle. I asked because a lot of our drivers do not wear seatbelts in DA. Even my idiot uncle who lived in England for over 40 years would not wear a seatbelt in Dominica when he dutifully wore it when he drove in England and other European countries.

Sincerest condolences to all those who are left to rue the death of the young man. May your spirit be buoyed by the cherished memories you enjoyed together with him.

Road safety needs to be given more attention and resources. Education about road safety, conspicuous and adequate signage and road markings, thorough inspection of vehicles for road worthiness, greater presence of traffic police on the streets are just a few changes that are needed.

General safety measures in Dominica are too lax for far too long. This has to be one of the many priorities of any government of Dominica.

Man Dog, I believe that when accidents happen in England, Europe for that matter and in America with the exception of a few caes of being inebriated driving, accidents do occur.
In Dominica people show off get drunk kill themselves and others talk fart about man finish working tired and fell asleep.
        Nonsense!
Last week during all the rain and flooding, I almost got myself killed along with my woman which would be my fault.
Eleven o’clock I in may house in Los Angeles, pouring rain, can’t see five feet ahead, poor visibility I decided to go home to my place in suburbs to see if there was any flood damage.
Can’t see a thing: we both never buckle up, and so I suggest we did.
About one half of a mile from where we fasten our seats belt the car hydroplane, on the Freeway into the center divider.
The water on the Freeway took my steering wheel from me in a split second, if we were reading without seat-belts as we usually do, both Rendy and I would be dead.

          Con.
Perhaps, they should emphasize that people should volunteer to buckle-up at home because seat belts do save life’s: if the people refuse to volunteer then a law should be tabbled making it mandatory.
Just about a month ago a medical doctor deliberately drove his Tesla off cliff with his wife and four children about a mile down landed on the rocks of a bay, not to far from San Francisco, all survived unscaled, due to seat belts.
