Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who was known for his strong advocacy of executive authority, died on Monday at the age of 84. Cheney was a prominent figure in American politics and business, serving as the nation’s 46th vice president from 2001 to 2009 during George W. Bush’s presidency.
According to a statement from his family, the cause of death was due to complications related to pneumonia, combined with underlying heart and vascular conditions.
Cheney’s educational journey included earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming, followed by graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin. His political career began in 1969 when he worked as an intern on Capitol Hill. He later served as White House Chief of Staff from 1975 until 1977. In 1978, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Wyoming’s single at-large district, a position he held from 1979 until 1989.
During George H. W. Bush’s presidency, Cheney was appointed Secretary of Defense, serving in that role for most of Bush’s term from 1989 to 1993. During the Clinton administration, he stepped away from public office and became the chairman and CEO of Halliburton, a major energy conglomerate, from 1995 to 2000.
Cheney was a vocal supporter of the Iraq invasion, asserting that Saddam Hussein’s government possessed weapons of mass destruction and maintained operational ties with Al-Qaeda—claims that were never proven. Additionally, he was an advocate for the U.S. government’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques, including torture. Though a staunch advocate for aggressive military strikes, he never actively served in the military, receiving five deferments, as reported by an NPR write-up.
Though widely branded the most powerful U.S. Vice president in modern history, reports indicate that by the end of his vice presidency, Cheney was considered one of the most unpopular figures in American politics, with approval ratings plummeting to just 13 percent.
In recent years, as per a CNN article, “Cheney, still a hardline conservative, nevertheless became largely ostracized from his party over his intense criticism of President Donald Trump, whom he branded a “coward” and the greatest-ever threat to the republic.”
In a counterintuitive development, Cheney went on to endorse Democrat Kamala Harris in her 2024 bid for president, saying that partisan politics must be put aside in the interest of the country’s greater good.
He voted for Kamala because he hated Trump. He never changed his political philosophy.
The question is, faith in what? I just hope that you have trusted in the Savior Jesus Christ, if you did, next time you will write
“Thank God I have placed my faith in Christ “
God’s blessings be yours.
Amen
Not only that Mr.Eagle he caused a black man,General Colin Powell to go on television and tell the world Saddam Hussain had weapons of mass destruction.Dick Cheney knew,Saddam did not possess weapons of mass destruction,it was a LIE,and political to put an American puppet in office.
The question is, faith in what? I just hope that you have trusted in the Savior Jesus Christ. If you did, then next time you will write
“Thank God I have placed my FAITH in Christ “
God’s blessings be yours.
Amen
That face is the epitome of evil. Under false pretence, he started the war against Iraq that killed, maimed and injured tens of thousands of innocent people. Karma is real. Just like a bank loan you have to repay with interest.
Let’s all remember this. Good or bad, nothing lasts forever. Always choose good over evil.
I wish, but where is the Karma? He died peacefully at age 84, well above the American lifespan average.
Recently I only ever hear eggshell egotistical, narcissistic types talk about karma, passive aggressively wishing punishment for others that in fact they deserve far more of, if the person they throwing fire for even deserves it at all.
I dont think Cheney belongs in the good category though even if he did support Kamala.
on the other hand, kind, not self-centered people ,who don’t have easily bruised egos that constantly look for people to lash out, at almost never talk about Karma, they are usually too busy wishing well for everyone and just being all-around decent folk, its glaring the difference in these people compared to pretenders who love to project an image of righteousness.
Also karma is not a western or Christian idea but these terrible sorts are always the “don”t confuse me with logic and facts when I already know I’m right” types.
Pete Hegseth needs to take note
nothing is forever on this material earth
this may be disappointing to some swell headed, narcissistic, egomaniac worshippers of self
de joker is de strongest card in de pack ………beginning and end
you at rest now………..I give thanks for faith
He never faced justice for the WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION lie which he used to wage war against Iraq in order to topple Saddam Husain and steal the Iraqis oil. He, George Bush Jr and Tony Blair should have all been brought to The Hague to answer for their crimes against the Iraqi people. If he didn’t repent maybe he will face this justice wherever his soul ends up.
You know that your time will come as well right? You might even go before Hegseth and all the other people you hate for reasons unknown.
Also I find it weird that DNO spends half of the article on a man’s death criticizing his political career. Like I get it he was terrible on foreign policy but at least let the man rest
What in the Sam Hill do you expect DNO to do in honor of a very partisan and divisive politicical figure who rarely considered the least of those during his public service tenure?
Maybe you will be appeased by the erection of a statue smack dab in the middle of Roseau of the statesman who could not shoot straight while serving the public or hunting bears.
Bro, over a million Iraqis were killed based on this lie. Do you think these guys souls should rest in peace when they depart this earth? unless they repent and beg for forgiveness their souls will be damned, along with Netanyahu, Hitler and others who play god and decide who should live and who should die. If you are familiar with the bible you will know that there is only one god. The one who giveth life. And yes, we all have to go at some point in time but our fate should not be placed in the hands of some greedy politician or despot dictator prepared to mass murder others to enrich himself.
