The late Catholic Priest, Fr. Charles Martin is being remembered for his dedicated priestly service to the Diocese of Roseau, the Caribbean, and beyond.
He passed away on December 2 at the presbytery of the St Alphonsus Church in Goodwill, where he was Parish Priest from 2017.
He was laid to rest in Soufriere yesterday.
“For 39 years Father Charles faithfully served the Diocese of Roseau and beyond,” Apostolic Delegate to the Diocese of Roseau Monsignor William Jno Lewis said during the funeral mass yesterday. “His priesthood was a shining testament to completely surrender to God’s will, whether ministering to the poor, comforting the sorrowful, or celebrating the eucharist.”
According to Monsignor Jno Lewis, the late Fr. Charles lived as a servant of God, obedient to His divine plan.
“I think of his 39 years of dedicated priestly service to this diocese, the Caribbean, and beyond,” he stated. “Throughout his ministry Fr. Charles demonstrated sincerity, humility, and unwavering love for his folk.”
Monsignor Jno Lewis continued, “He was a Priest who lived for others and what comes to mind is the number of people he housed at his home after the hurricane for a long time. And some were very grateful and others well, they could have been more grateful.”
Fr. Charles also housed a number of people at the Parish Hall in Goodwill.
“He brought joy to his parishioners, inspired his peers, and cultivated unity in the communities he served,” Monsignor Jno Lewis stated. “Those who encountered him could not help but to appreciate the genuine love he poured into his vocation. A love rooted in his devotion to Christ.”
He added, “As we commit Fr Charles to God’s eternal embrace, let us carry forward his example, let us remember like him, we are gifts to one another called to love, to serve, and to bring glory to God.”
Following the Mass, he was interred at the St Mark’s Catholic Cemetery in Soufriere.
Fr. Martin served as a Roman Catholic Priest for 39 years, he was ordained on August 18, 1985.
He served as the Dean of the Cathedral in Roseau from 2008 to 2017.
Martin was well-known throughout Dominica as a man of great faith and commitment to the church and the priesthood.
