Fugitive Dorian Dailey apprehended after six days on the run

Dorian Dailey

Following a six-day pursuit, fugitive Dorian Dailey, convicted of manslaughter in the death of his father, has been successfully captured. Inspector Fixton Henderson of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) revealed that Dailey was found in the Sultan area earlier today, putting an end to the search that began following his escape from the Dominica State Prison on January 3, 2024.

Dailey’s legal journey started on January 9, 2017, marked by a tragic altercation resulting in the severe injury and subsequent death of his father, Maurice Murry Dailey. On the aforementioned date, in the early morning hours in Grand Fond, Dailey inflicted severe head and bodily injuries on his 62-year-old father. Maurice Murry Dailey was subsequently admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on February 21, 2017.

Six years later the matter was tried at the High Court, and on May 25, 2023, succeeding a seven-day trial, a nine-member jury deliberated for 1 hour and 48 minutes returning with a not guilty verdict for murder but found Dailey guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The prosecution, which presented its case over seven days and called 11 witnesses to the stand, highlighted the severity of Maurice’s injuries, which were inflicted by his son. Following the guilty verdict, then High Court Judge, Justice Thomas W. R. Astaphan, sentenced Dorian Dailey to 28 years, 9 months, and 22 days in prison. The gravity of the crime and the resulting sentence indicated the severity with which the court viewed Dorian’s actions. His expected release date was set for May 9, 2052.

The recent escape from the Dominica State Prison thrust Dailey back into the spotlight, sparking concerns about the prison’s security measures. An anonymous prison official had assured that law enforcement was diligently working to locate and re-incarcerate Dailey, acknowledging the potential threat he poses to the community.

Now apprehended, Dailey faces charges of Escaping Lawful Confinement, potentially adding to his sentence.

@Ibo France you start to cool down now? You better because you were about to get banned from dno. Tomorrow you will forget the statement you made today and get back on your tracks.

Applaud for what? They are getting paid! No body applaud ing me for doing my job and I’m working three jobs to make ends meet. Applaud me too, nuh! This was very easy. Where could you hide in Dominica escaping from jail? Piece of cake that one. Me and my dog would have found him the same day. Do you know the amount of havoc this dude could have done in 6 days?

    Good job officers!
Now its up to Handel and others to place him in solitary confinement for a few months to break his spirit

I see Valarie ensured that the heat was kept on finding this guy. Lucky for Daily he lived to see another day which tells me Constable Itchy Finger and Insp. Hilly-Air was not part of the squad that captured him. He better thank his lucky stars because he cheated death…

We castigate law enforcement when they fail or make errors. Conversely, we should applaud them when they do well. For recapturing this escaped prisoner the Dominica constabulary deserves commendation. Good job!

Ibo, your head eh right, eno!

You have never missed an opportunity to dismiss the police force as the worst thing for Dominica, as a Skerrit tool, as all things bad, but yet you now claim “applaud them when they do well?” But you have already repeatedly claimed that all they do is bad! How do you make this post make sense, Ibo? And you refer to Skerrit as “Starboy of Stupidity?!”
