Lord melody waiting for you!
Mama look a boo boo they shout thier mother tell them shut up their mouth, that is your daddy oh no bring the money to pay melo.
You might be one from the era of Harry Belafonte: the younger generation do not have any clue of who the man is; nevertheless, in his day his tunes (songs) were regarded as Calypsos, the reality is I don’t think the he sang calypso, but rather Caribbean folk-songs.
His biggest, and most popular song ” Day O Day O Daylight Come And Me Wan
Go home: Come Mr. Tally-man Tally Me Banana” ect, ect, in that song which changed his personal life economically, and his total career in my opinion is not Calypso as we know it.
Hence he was dubbed some sort of Calypso king. Even since his passing I hard someone on Television referred to him as Calypso of the world.
I wonder if the one and only Calypso King of the world: Dr. Slinger Francisco (The Mighty Sparrow heard that , what might be his reaction!
Even when the Belafonte, brought the late great saxophonists Frankie Francis from Trinidad to Hollywood to play in his band, his songs still sounded as Caribbean Folk songs.
“Television referred to him as Calypso of the world.”
That should read ‘someone on Television referred to as Calypso King of the world.’
And since I have space, let me say: Slinger Francisco do have an honorary Ph.D and though very few people refers to him as doctor, he did not buy that title, it was bestowed on him!
Glad you show some respect for him, that’s heavy. As you’d imagine it’s really not about calypso but about activism, supporting the ranks of MLK, Malcolm, The Black Panthers and our other leaders that they k*lled all while they write our history to teach us at their schools.
