Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71, as confirmed by his manager, Chris Volo.
According to NBC News, Volo said Hogan died peacefully at his residence in Clearwater, Florida, surrounded by loved ones.
Emergency services reportedly responded to his home on Thursday morning, following reports of a cardiac arrest.
The article shared that Hogan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born Terry Bollea, Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming arguably the most prominent star in WWE’s history over its five-decade span.
His popularity spanned the globe, and he was an iconic figure even on the local Dominican scene during that period.
He headlined the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985 and continued to be a mainstay at the event, battling legendary opponents like Andre The Giant, Randy Savage, The Rock, and even WWE chairman Vince McMahon.
Throughout his career, Hogan secured six WWE championships and was honored with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 by Sylvester Stallone. However, his relationship with WWE ended in 2015 after a leaked audio revealed him using racial slurs, leading to his removal from the Hall of Fame and the company’s website.
Despite this, he was reinstated in 2018 following public apologies and efforts to mentor young people.
Hogan is survived by his children, Brooke Hogan, 37, and Nick Hogan, 34, along with his third wife, Sky Daily.
I used to enjoy wrestling as kid until I found out quickly that it was staged. I promptly ditched the “sport” and refocused on the “sweet science” where the boxing commissions had a zero tolerance policy for juicing and other shenanigans.
Though an imposing, intriguing and entertaining personality in his own right, I kept “the Hulkster” out of mind and out of sight throughout his reality television show charade and beyond. Wrestling was his schtick but I will also remember the self-proclaimed racist for his less than cordial feelings about people of color who were some of wrestling’s biggest fans.
Spoken by a self righteous bigot.
No one’s cares dude. Get a life
Hulk Hogan was a good entertainer in the wrestling ring and was liked by wrestling fans around the world but when he started showing the racism side of himself and being a poster boy for Trump and his racist policies, he went from being adored to being regarded as reprehensible. These MAGA folks believe that they are untouchable but when it is your time to go, MAGA can’t save you. There is always this force beyond mankind that is greater than the power we possess on earth. May his soul rest in peace.
