A 40-year-old Newtown man who resides at Kingshill is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of murder preferred against him by the police.
Lenly Stephen appeared before Magistrate Michel Laudat on January 18, 2023, where the charge was read to him.
Stephen stands charged with the January 14, 2023, murder of 36-year-old Ned James Ettinoffe also of Kingshill.
Police Inspector Fixton Henderson earlier reported that on the beforementioned date, sometime after midnight, Ettinoffe was found lying on his back on a flight of concrete steps at Morne Bruce with an open wound to the anterior aspects or front of his right elbow.
“He was unresponsive and appeared to be dead,” the police Inspector stated. “He was subsequently examined and pronounced dead that same morning at the scene by a medical doctor.”
At his court hearing, Stephen was not required to enter a plea as the matter is an indictable offense and is expected to be heard at the High Court before a judge and jury.
The accused man is represented by attorney-at-law Joshua Francis. Francis did not make a formal bail application in the Magistrate’s court for his client as he indicated his intention to do so at the High Court.
Stephen is now remanded into custody and is expected to return to the Magistrate Court on June 1, 2023, for the start of his Preliminary Inquiry.
For the safety of the people deny bail to these murders for other to think from taking ones life.
Society must not become desensitized to murder. This has to be reduced to negligible levels. We can only accomplish this if the whole of society work determinedly and tirelessly together against this pestilence.
