Pichelin man killed by fallen tree log

The community of Pichelin is in a state of mourning following the accidental death of a member of that community.

On January 11, 2023, sometime after 2:00 p.m., 42-year-old Solomon James was clearing a piece of land, and was struck by a tree that he was felling.

Dominica News Online (DNO) was informed by police sources that during the activity, Solomon’s chainsaw got stuck in the tree, and whilst attempting to free his machine with a cutlass, the log fell on him pinning him beneath it.

His companion who was assisting him in clearing the land attempted to free him but his efforts were futile.

The assistance of other villagers was sought, however, Solomon later became unresponsive and after being freed he was transported to the Bellevue Chopin Health Center where further efforts to resuscitate him proved futile.

He was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

The police have since launched an investigation into the matter.

DNO will continue to follow this story and report any new developments.

RIP young man and my deepest condolences to family, friends and loved ones.
I just don’t like the way the last 15 days have gone on island in which we lost 6 people in some kind of funny deaths where 2 were murdered, 1 the police said hung himself, 1 got drowned, the 13 month old baby in a day care and now this one. I know these kind of deaths happen all over but never have I heard them happening in such short space of time in such a small country. Boy we better be careful because it seems like we are either under a curse for the evil we have blessed as a people or those jumbees of mister affecting the land. It was just yesterday I heard some people in town saying how these days we seem to be saying “accept my sympathy more than we congratulating people for success. It’s hard and heartbreaking man
