Police are actively investigating the shooting death of Dwight Maximea, a 33-year-old of Portsmouth.
According to reports from police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday 14th September.
Further information in relation to this homicide will be provided as new developments becomes available.
It’s time dominica starts talking about the death penalty. Too many deaths, too guns. The shootings cannot be allowed to continue.
Why not blame the gun manufacturers England, France and the USA. While the USA is blaming countries like venezuela for sending drugs to America for greedy Americans to use we in Dominica are blaming Skeritt and his government for gun violence. Where is the gun and ammunition factory in Dominica!!!
Millions of people in the U.S. have guns (legally) without issue. Why is it that a small group of people would use guns for nefarious purposes? Ironically a gun is a great tool to protect yourself from those type of people, for example when they break and enter into your home or business or for a woman when one of those people attempts to rape her. People use guns for hunting, for target practise etc, no problems. But one group of people have guns brandishing in music videos talking about who they’ve killed and who they’re going to kill etc etc
Knives are banned in certain parts of the U.K. now for the same reason that a small group of people decide to use knives for nefarious purposes. Should we ban knives in Dominica too? The guy who killed that innocent ukranian girl on the train didn’t use a gun.
Maybe it’s not the gun but the people using the guns
Things were already bad and our young people, especially our young men were falling by the wayside like ripe cherries. But since Skerrit and his wife had that so called visit with the Pope things got three times worse. So I am now asking myself what kind of visit that was. God Help us in this country
So the guy that got shot only got into the drug life AFTER Skerrit went to visit the pope? Between Skerrit, his wife and the pope, which one of the them pulled the trigger five times to take the life of his brother? And what do you mean “three times worse”? We had a 300% increase in the rate of violent crime in the last week? Fascinating!
When will Dominicans start to take accountability for their own actions and that of their fellow country men? When will we stop glorifying the “bad man” and the gang and drug culture? When will we start respecting authority and let the police do their job.
We believe in too much “evil” like some mysterious force that we can’t control when the evil is what we uphold in society everyday. The loose lifestyle, the “bad man”, the “gyalies” the bacanal culture all this crap. THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
No change in government will ever fix that
He visited the Pontiff to decorate his expansive ego. Want his name in the news.
Every time I blink police getting a raise, but I yet to say I can see a police patrolling after sunset.
Yessah.
Well we reach a stage in this country.
Gun crime is an epidemic in Dominica. What exactly is being done to reduce these murders to acceptable levels? If should be a all of society endeavor led by the administration in power. Frankly, I do not see or feel that enough is being done. Do you?
We need a sustained police presence in high crime areas.More stop and search by the police. Put many surveillance cameras on the busiest streets in crime infested areas. That’s just a few crime fighting strategies.
Crime does not discriminate. It is everybody’s business. ” He who does not prevent a crime when he can, encourages it.
It s
@Ibo France
The Skerrit led regime is too busy selling passport. It has abandoned the peoples safety. He does not care.
Just look at the top leadership of the police force, and who is minister of National Security. Then you will know
WOW!
You are spot on! The man sole purpose of running the country is to engage i n creative enrichment.
I hear you bro but WOW had the perfect answer already.
When you have a gang of ALLEGED criminals posing as a government with the sole purpose of living the high life and getting rich by any means necessary, NOTHING will change.
We need a purge of politicians, police hierachy, clergy, court system (magistracy, DPP Office, AG etc). The country has gone mad on corruption brother and devilish practices are rampant. Blood sacrifice has become so common that we seem to be immune to what is happening around us. WE NEED CHANGE LIKE YESTERDAY!!!!!
@Ibo France
Police presence in high crime areas? That’s basic commonsense Ibo, but that can’t full the pockets of those greedies with $$$$$$$$$$ Ibo France. Even a blind man can see that criminals are on the loose, and that the crime situation on island will get plenty worse before it gets better.
Imagine that a country has Blackmore as Minister of National Secutity? Really?
MEME
So when the police start to do stop and search it’s going to be people just like you criticizing them for harrassing people and asking why they don’t go after this person or that person. People filming themselves berating police officers while they do their job etc etc.
THAT is the problem in Dominica, we have a culture that despises authority. People don’t follow rules anywhere, on the road, in school, at work etc. Dominican people just hate following rules in general. And we are generally incapable of taking accountability for our actions. That’s why people always quick to blame government or evil or some other crap.
Unless the culture changes these types of incidents will continue in spite of all what the police will do. And yes crime does discriminate. Aside from that one tragedy that involved innocent bystanders, majority of these victims are people involved in crime themselves. Wait until they put up the pictures of the current victim

*slow clap*
…a thinking, intellectually honest individual…wow
Im guessing your response is to Ibo, I agree with another poster he’s just a weak hypocritical pretender throwing words around grandstanding because he thinks that will make him look good.
Truly sick and delusional its just his online persona so its a pretense on top of pretense, but thats just how egotistical and fake he is…
He does brush by good points sometimes in his rush to look good, I mean even a broken clock is right twice a day but like any narcissist you can’t trust what they say or put moral stock in it even if they somehow manage to speak some truth (still regard the truth just not them).
What you are saying is the way but the easy emotional reward that Ibo and similar pretenders spew is just too tempting for most, even if they know better….google “why Socrates hated democracy” or “Socrates the doctor and the candyman”
or here is a short video on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLJBzhcSWTk
cont.
The greek Socrates didn’t actually hate democracy, as any genuine critical thinker he saw the pros and cons. BTW greek knowledge was inspired by African knowledge and history.
He realized democracy is only as good as the people behind it represented by the oft quoted line “for the people by the people”.
Our democracy is inspired by the British and US models so that line is relevant to us as well.
Without a good education system, culture (cultural values) and a personal conscience democracy will fail the people because the people will fail to uphold a healthy (moral) democracy. Elevating the worst of us to power rather than the best.
Many will choose to blame “the system” rather than take accountability for their own contributions. Hypocritically seeing their own faults in everyone but themselves. Blind to truth and genuine goodness, only their beliefs have worth.
Ultimately, most won’t tolerate information that will challenge them to change their current views.
@hmm
Nonsense and garbage.
Why do you think that one cant criticize the police?
The same police that has allowed politics to wreck havoc in the force?
Stupes…Your long harangue is pure foolishness. They need to do their work. So far they are not doing so.
You mentioned some people don’t follow rules anymore? You LIE most Dominicans do. And why didn’t you mention politicians, like those we have in government among those who do not follow rules?.
Man get out of here!
Garbage.
The police musf do their work.
@hmm
People are berating police officers because they have become puppets and not officers of the law. When you make your bed you must lay in it wet or dry.
Youa re right that Dcans dont follow rules anymore. Skerrit told us is none of our dam business where he gets his money and no law no constitution can stop him;..remember?
You are right these incidents will continue to happen until the police return to policing, and apply the law to all and sundry. And yes, maority of these people are involev in crime because it hs become a monkey see so monkey do society lead by our beloved politicians and so called leaders.
So you see, everything you are saying is correct except you are not laying blame where it rightfully should. HYPOCRITE!!!!!!
