The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding two recent suicides on island.
According to reports from Inspector Fixton Henderson, on Thursday, April 6, 2023, about 5PM the lifeless body of a male, identified as 48-year-old Sammer Elias of Washington USA was found hanging by his neck, tied to the ceiling in a cabin on a yacht.
He said the yacht which was owned and captained by Elias was anchored in the Caribbean Sea about 75 feet outside of Lalay Coco, Castle Comfort at the time of discovery.
The body was transported to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) where it was examined and pronounced dead by a medical doctor that same evening.
Elias’ body is being kept at a funeral home pending an autopsy.
Meantime, police are conducting investigations into another suicide that occurred at Goodwill.
Inspector Henderson reported that on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at about 1PM, the lifeless body of 28-year-old Shervon Isidore of Franklyn Lane, Goodwill was found hanging by his neck tied to a rafter of a roof of a dilapidated house at Franklyn Lane, Goodwill.
Isidore occupied a section of that house.
He was examined and pronounced dead by a medical doctor that same afternoon at the scene.
His body was transported to a funeral home for safe-keeping pending an autopsy.
The CDPF expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
We don’t believe Sammerwas suicidal- we’d like to know who might have known him in that anchorage
When people go to this extreme to hang themselves to death by rope their lives must have been too insufferable to continue. Truly sad!
The world has become a post empathy place. We have grown so apart from even our next door neighbours that seeking their help in times of personal crisis has become inconceivable.
We are much too divided. We need a leader that would unite us instead of this divide and rule policy for personal gain.
There is a dire need for stronger and better social safety programs so in times of grave personal crisis we can readily seek and get the help that is needed.
I suspect they are all disillusioned DLP supporters who finally woke up and smelled the coffee. There will be many many more to come over the years. Dominica is a broken country and its citizens lost all hope. Worse even, they finally realise that THEY themselves are to blame for it all.

I agree if that really were the case, that would be an absolutely stupid reason to hang yourself, especially if you are a foreigner who owns and captains his own multi million dollar yacht. Never the less, my question to you is why isnt there any toilet paper, soap or adequate medicine at the hospital? Remember you are the one who said these things arent present at our nations primary health care facility.
I know samer personally this brother would not hang himself the fact that 2 days later another person found hung same way is very very odd either the second guy killed Jim self because he killed samer or someone killed them both You people will protect your image and call it sucide so us Americans won’t be worried about coming to your island !This needs to have justice and that’s all when the FBI is now investigating the truth will come out
George please pm me- we are longtime friends of Sammer and are having a hard time accepting suicide. We sailed with him on our boat in northwest and he visited us in Panama before he purchased his boats. We expected to hear of him heading to Panama from Caribbean. This gs are happening in Dominica and cannot get resolved what kind of government do we have right now as I speak the hospital they talk have no medicine to give to patients no toilet paper no soap the hospital is missing alot of things they don’t have anything but the leaders have millions what a shame

In the absence of an investigation, how do they know it is suicide?
Over here any death is first treated as a homicide until they can rule it out. That is to preserve the evidence and prevent contamination in the event it is a homicide that is made to look like suicide.
Exactly I knew samer very well free spirit lives everyone and happy this is a murder made to look like sucide two hanging same way days apart come on now who do this people think we are stupid ????justice for samer FBI will find out and truth will come out for those who how are

Let’s not try to compete with our sister islands!!!!. I detest criminal activities of all kinds to include theft, white collar crimes(by all, particularly dirty, lying, greedy and corrupt politicians), murder, money laundering, etc…One death is already one too many. We should have our think tank in place years ago to advice the authorities on how to stem the tide….!
Hope the culprits are soon apprehended. It’s dangerous to have such people roaming the streets!
