Shooting in Grand Bay claims the life of 28-year- old Campbell man; baby found dead in Pointe Michel

Mervin Bernard

Mervin Bernard, a 28-year-old Campbell man is the ill-fated victim of yet another shooting death in Dominica, hours before his 29th birthday.

Information received by creditable police sources reveals that on the night of May 29, 2023, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Bernard was in Lalay Grand Bay when he received three gunshot wounds.

He was then transported to the Grand Bay Health Centre by personnel of the Fire and Ambulance Services where he was medically examined and referred to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) for further treatment.

However, whilst en route to the hospital, Bernard succumbed to his injuries and was officially pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor. Police sources further revealed to Dominica News Online (DNO), that witnesses on the scene reported that the gunshot wounds were allegedly inflicted upon the Campbell man by three individuals, two of whom were masked.

Since no arrest has been made thus far, the police are in search of the assailants who have not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, investigations are ongoing into the discovery of a baby found buried under a house at Union Estate Housing scheme in Point Mitchel.

An officer told DNO that at the time of the discovery on May 26, 2023, the body of a baby girl was wrapped in a plastic bag and buried in a shallow grave under a house.

Days prior to the unearthing of the baby, at the same house, on May 22, 26-year-old Sharonda Minette of Pointe Michel was found dead in her bathroom.

The police have not confirmed whether Minette was pregnant prior to her death, nor has her cause of death been determined.

Investigations into these matters are ongoing.

The curse is on. For every male Dominican killed in Dominica there is a tenfold foreign replacement with Haitians, Chinese, St. Lucian and Cubans.

This is sad. We need to come together my people. We should be our brothers keeper. We live in a paradise and we are the Nature Island. We have a unique culture and country which we should appreciate. Why are we killing eachother.

BLACKMORE seem to bed upset about an electoral reform meeting to be held on 31st May, and opted instead to spew his usual slimy stuttering garbage about the gathering, but he has totally forgotten that during his tenure as Minister of National Security, there has been a proliferation of gun crimes on island, that have law abiding citizens questioning if those who lead, really care about the safety of the nation…!!
I would be elated if the criminals are caught, and taken out of our streets!!

Grand Bay Againnnnnnnnnnnnn! Yes I said it!

This is where Skerrit should send his hench officers in mass numbers and execute search warrants simultaneously. But noooo, that’s a constituency called zhadeen-patat- labour so they can do no wrong. Imagine a man from Grand Bay on trial for murder is given government contracts. Well I guess that’s a lesson for those who play bad in their community to stay in that community or face the rhythm elsewhere. Dca is a fools paradise these days. “Alleged” recipients of the “guns in barrels deals” facilated by “alleged” corrupt customs officer are on the loose again. “Labourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! You still love your PM?  Mi-chou-nou-patay!

Wrong story, sad as it is I would not claim one town over another after hearing of even more horrible double killings in “Possie again”. I know what you mean, these are major bad deeds, but I wouldn’t celebrate.😢

Seem like Oldmose died!! Remember him with this Toyota van. He also worked with Public Works!!
He was a gentleman. Would not do harm to a fly.
Crime and criminal behavior has reached its peak under his DLP regime, and they just don’t care!!

There is a pregnant silence by the imbecilic National Security Minister on these two specific matters and others of a similar nature. However, he is excessively vocal and threatening about the peaceful gathering by a frustrated citizenry to be held tomorrow.

Crime is a runaway train in this country. Those who have usurped power from the majority by criminal means are now at the steering wheel.

Criminals cannot solve or drive out crimes only a caring and law abiding government can. This present administration is a den of kleptomaniacs.
