The Dominica Public Service Union is saddened by the passing of an outstanding comrade and colleague.
Bro Alvin Serrant, former President of the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU), was a patriotic son of the soil. He was soft-spoken but forthright and possessed result oriented leadership skills.
Alvin was illustrious but was a very humble leader. The latter may have resulted in him not always being in the limelight. During his years of being a trade unionist, Alvin’s contribution was visible not only locally but regionally. He also had exposure at the international level.
Much of WAWU’s successes in the ’80s and ’90s can be attributed to the trio of Louis Bennoit, Kertiste Augustus, and Alvin Serrant.
Many of the benefits gained by stevedores and longshore workers were possible because of Comrade Serrant’s input.
Alvin came, he served and now he has departed. It is left to those who are still here and those to come to build on the foundation which he helped in creating.
Rest peacefully, Bro Alvin. Thanks for your contribution.
The Dominica Public Service Union extends its condolences to his family, relatives, and friends.
