Wife of Uk-based Dominican author, Ras Albert Williams, passes

The literary and Caribbean artistic communities are mourning the loss of Tempie Delois Williams (née King), an American-born author and wife to Ras Albert Williams, a Dominican writer and historian based in the UK.  She died on Monday, July 28.

According to a recently-issued press release, Tempie Williams began her literary endeavours in the United States through PublishAmerica, with her debut novel “Feelings”. It was through this publisher that she also found a profound personal connection—meeting her future husband. He says their relationship developed rapidly, culminating in a 17-year marriage founded on what Ras Albert describes shared creativity, compassion, and resilience.

He reflected, “Tempie leapt in, feet first, into a new life. She left behind familiarity for love, and she embraced it all—new country, new rhythms, new purpose.”

He added that throughout their lives together, the couple maintained a low profile, avoiding fame or controversy, instead focusing on their mutual devotion and work. Tempie’s dedication to education was evident as she enrolled in Open University courses, earned amateur radio certification at an introductory level, and became a member of the Bookkeepers Association—all while confronting significant health issues, shared her husband.

Williams revealed that in her later years, despite being confined to bed, Tempie remained mentally alert and lively. She continued to support Albert’s creative pursuits and stayed engaged with her surroundings through reading, reflecting on family memories, and spiritual practice.

Notably, he stated, a scene in her novel “Feelings” depicting a laser surgery gone wrong eerily foreshadowed her own health crisis, blurring the lines between fiction and real life, and bestowing her words with a prophetic dimension..

Ras Albert Williams shared that she took particular pride in her dreadlocks, “Even now, in her room, her dreadlocks lie peacefully on the bed, surrounded by photographs of our life, our families, our love. It’s as if her spirit curated her own memorial.”

As arrangements for her funeral are underway, her husband wishes to honor her legacy—not from vanity, but from what he says is “an act of historical and cultural remembrance.”

“We lived peacefully and minding our own business,” he stated. “Now I ask that her story be told. She was a queen, and her memory deserves to be illuminated.”
