National Diaspora Policy in advanced stage of development, says Darroux

Dominicans living overseas meeting with the government at the State House on Wednesday

Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Dr. Kenneth Darroux has announced that the government of Dominica is in the advanced stage of putting together a National Diaspora Policy to address key issues concerning the diaspora.

He made the announcement during the annual Diaspora Dialogue held at the State House Conference Center on Wednesday.

According to him, the dialogue which is taking place after a 6-year hiatus will afford Dominicans who are home to celebrate Dominica’s 44th Anniversary of Independence, the opportunity to engage with government officials on matters of development.

“We are in an advanced stage of putting together a National Diaspora Policy, one that will provide guidance in making public decisions on key issues concerning the diaspora, such as investment, national recovery efforts, and the rights of generational diaspora and Dominicans,” Dr. Darroux said.

Additionally, he said the government has recently put together a Diaspora Advisory Committee made up of members of key associations around the world with the aim of establishing better communication between their country of origin, Dominica, and the place of residence.

Meanwhile, Dr. Darroux stated that the government is cognizant of the critical role that the overseas body has played, and continues to play, in the nation-building process.

“Your support to your homeland has not gone unnoticed and we would like to thank you for never, ever forgetting Dominica,” he said.

As far as I am concerned there is no such thing as a Dominica diaspora. The definition of the word is simple this: the dispersion of any people from their original homeland.
Originating from “Greek, from diaspeirein ‘disperse’, from dia ‘across.’
The term originated in the Septuagint Deuteronomy 28:25 in the phares ese diaspora en pasais basileias tes ges ” thou shall be a dispersion in all Kingdom of the earth. It has more to do with the Hebrews in Exile and mean the dispersion of the Jews among the Gentiles after the Babylonian Exile or the aggregate of Jews, or Jewish communities scattered in Exile outside Palestine which is today modern Israel.
So, when one uses such word as Dominica-diaspora that’s bull!
Indeed, we are scattered because we fled poverty caused by Roosevelt!
Some of those people Darroux talking to are penniless, how can they invest in Dominica, when those living in any American territory are on welfare!
If they from England same thing…

There is nothing like a ‘National Diaspora Policy’ but for sure there is a ‘National Diaspora Election Policy’. There is a fine difference!

   Like Trump would say;”The crowd was massively massive”. With all those empty seats in this small space I am certain Skerro is sleeping very uneasy tonight. That meeting was a total failure and now the infighting has begun on who did not do what. Dr. D, tell your boss the young lady did her job advertising the event. Even me heard it on the radio hence my attendance but the BIG Clown was visibly absent. Was looking forward to meeting him   . I got you all covered

Bwa talking about empty seats i guess you did not see the attendance at the one for the UWP, there was a total of 23 persons
including Linton and Lugay. Now do the math, sorry I meant arithmetic.

The only policy in place by this disgraced administration with Dominicans living in the diaspora is to urge them to keep the remittances coming to Dominica.

At this economically tough times real leaders are compassionate. Many of his counterparts in the region have given their people economic relief. Roosevelt has been dispassionate through this unbelievable extremely difficult period stubbornly refusing to even acknowledge the excruciating pain of the majority.

Pure rubbish! Ibo MALAPROP France. You need to face the reality of this present era we are living in. By the way, have you ever asked LL what has he done with those monies he has collected on Dominica’s behalf?!

Compare this to what happened on the airport on election day! When it comes to paying their tickets, Labour seems to not have much support on the ground.

Maybe Ibo Frank was right about his diaspora comment; they are not broke, instead they are just cheap that is why many of them got apartments in the Dominica housing development scheme.

Vide the following from the the Archives:

    “Dominica – Diaspora Policy Paper
    PART ONE: INTRODUCTION, OBJECTIVE, PROCESS
    1.1. Authorization
By letter dated June 28th, 2004 the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica endorsed the preparation of a Policy Paper on Dominica – Diaspora Relations. This endorsement authorized the Dominica Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS) to undertake this work as a matter of some urgency.(Appendix A). This initiative, under the direct sponsorship of the Ministry of Finance and Planning, obviously straddles the administrative and policy concerns of most, if not all, of the national ministries and agencies…”

Does anyone remember who was PM in 2004? Is “shame” now a resilient word in this administration’s lexicon? This paper has been in the pipeline for 18 years? So old that it has poosiere (dust)? What happened to the word “urgency”? Is it now a Sustainable Development Goal for 2030? Asking for a friend.

Juanita, move to the head of the journalism class. You have done your research unlike these lazy boneheads impostrously parading themselves as bona fide journalists.

You have clearly and undoubtedly exposed miscreant (Roosevelt) for exactly who is, nothing more than a notorious, habitual LIAR. DNO, Kairi, DBS, GIS would have never reminded the public of Roosevelt’s past utterance on the said topic.

Thank you, Juanita, for your diligent work.
