Reo releases debut abum- The Fresh Prince of Bouyon

Reo The Fresh Prince of Bouyon, album cover.

Bouyon artist, Reo (Dario Sebastien) has released his debut album The Fresh Prince of Bouyon, just in time for fans to familiarise themselves with his new material as he makes his WCMF debut on Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Though he’s been on the scene since 2018, Reo brings a fun and fresh vibe to his music that has helped to capture the attention of fans around the globe. The album’s title ideally encapsulates this youthful energy and includes 13 brand new, previously unreleased tracks.

For the Colihaut native, the album’s fresh appeal is a contribution,  not only to the promotion of his music but the genre as a whole.

“My goal for The Fresh Prince of Bouyon was simply to give a different perspective on Bouyon and show how versatile Bouyon can be. Outside people think Bouyon is just one thing but there are some love songs [on the album]… “ adding,   “I show, you know, the love side, the rough side, the money side.”

Supporting videos will also be used to enhance this clean image of the genre, so that “people can take us more [seriously], ” says Reo.

The album was recorded in Dominica and features production credits from Savion, DJ Shil, DJ Taffy,  ThaWiZzarD, Dernel Green, D0 Productions, King Slim, DJ Guy Guy, DJ Chimik, DJ Tykrys, DJ Bryce, Little Boy, and Swafet.  Green mixed and mastered all songs, while recordings were done at Bobo Studios, Di Yute’s YW3 Studios, and at ThaWiZzarD studios.

Though the experience of recording the album over the last two years has been “tough,” he hopes that the gains will make it all worthwhile.

“I spent a lot of money, spent a lot of time in the studios but I believe that at the end it will all be worth it and I really hope the people that listen to the album enjoy it and at least see me as an artist and hopefully I gain more fans.”

Reo has already made significant traction in the French West Indies (FWI) where his music is on heavy rotation on radio stations and his 2022 single “DouDou” spent five months on TRACE TV’s Hit Lokal top 20 show.  The song has had over a million views on YouTube. His 2018 hit “Sa Ka Bay” featuring DJ Bling has 2.5 million views.  He hopes to see similar results for singles from this album and promises a slew of performances to promote The Fresh Prince of Bouyon, including a High School Tour, an island-wide tour (10 performances in each parish), and tours in the US and Europe.

Why can’t these Dominican Bands, singers and song writers , follow the footsteps of our pioneers and produce more marketable and properly arranged music?
This is pure noise that I am hearing coming the younger generation!! Triple K , Signal band and the rest.

“A lot of money” and “a lot of time” spent to produce this collection of recycled lyrics, recycled tune, and recycled rhythm?

    Pure koshonie!

Let the young man spread his wings. If you have nothing good to say, just say nothing at all.. Respect to you REO, I appreciate your ideas about the direction for Bouyon… More versatility to showcase a greater palette of emotions. Not everything is sex and violence. The youth did the work, did you all see his collaboration with Jolly’s?? People don’t see when you out there achieving the small milestones but always want to take cheap shots when u making waves.

More like the biggest clown in bouyon after Anwar in my opinion. You know when some people have no real talent but they insist they need to be a celebrity? Well feller trying his hardest eh. To me his music is nonsense. unrefined and lacks any versatility. Whenever Mr. goes on a truck for carnival they a;ways have to tell him to cool out and watch his mouth and not to have himself. immature emotional little boy i think.

For a person who salivated over a foreign queen who presided over so much death & destruction, the theft of wealth diamonds, gold, millions of precious Art work from your continent, displayed all with military might; you cannot find one good word to say about your very own County man? Sick, uneducated I tell you.
