Opposition parties and groups to meet later today to discuss the way forward following snap election announcement

DFP Chairman, Johnson Boston labels PM’s election announcement as ‘ludicrous’

Various opposition parties, civil organisations, faith groups and union representatives are gearing up to meet later today to discuss the way forward following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a snap election last evening.

General Secretary of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) Johnson Boston revealed that at the meeting which is scheduled for 5 pm at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU), their main focus will be the lack of electoral reform here in Dominica.

“We were promised electoral reform following the 2019 general elections and here we are again going to face another election with no reform,” he told Dominica News Online (DNO).

Boston added, “ we don’t know where the report is. Over half a million dollars  was paid to Sir Denis Byron and we don’t know if he  took our money, we simply don’t know.”

According to the senior politician, the organizers which include the United Workers Party (UWP) and the National Joint Action Movement (NJAM) hold the view that what the prime minister is doing is provoking the goodness, the Christianity and the quietness of the people of Dominica, as such he opined that something needs to be done.

Boston went on to label the PM’s announcement of the snap election, which is scheduled for December 6, 2022,  as ludicrous noting that the “prime minister last night behaved like a crazy person.”

“Listening to the address one would have thought that he was focused on the situation with petrol on the island as well as the heavy rainfall over the weekend that caused some damage in the east, but instead that wasn’t the case,” the DFP executive member stated.

“The reason he gave us was to give the DLP a fresh and new look. It can’t be about the labour party, it has to be more than the labour party. It’s a country you are running, not a camp of indisciplined politicians and ministers and members of parliament. It is a country you’re running and that is insufficient reason to give a country as to why you call an early poll 2 plus years before it is constitutionally due,” he argued.

Boston urged all citizens to join the meeting to add their voices to discuss what can be done to avoid a situation where the country will be generated into chaos and civil unrest.

All I know is this: That Dominicans are more prepared for storm than ever before. So let’s see how it goes. Dominica and FREEDOM is worth fighting for. In my lifetime, there was only one brave man in Dominica. But there may be many more. Dominica too sweet, boy. Let’s unite against the EVIL RED to rescue her from the jaws of those Jac-K-A.s-is. For too long they have taken Dominicans for fools. Well, this time the table is going to turn. I see madness, desperation and balls in someone who who fully knows his guilt and is try every trick in the book to evade and avoid having to answer for crimes committed. Well feller, you are in the last chapter, the last paragraph, the last line of that book. Curtains are closing. You have made your choice to deceive us and to enrich yourself by stealing our money and destroying our constitution. For this, you are tormented and acting Crazy/Foux. WE ARE READY.

The election observers came to Dominica to monitor the 2019 general election. The UWP lost by 7,219 votes,18 seats to 3 and 59.01% to 40.99% .At the end of it all the observers said, the 2019 election held in Dominica was free and fair and reflected the will of the people, and was conducted according to the ELECTORAL laws of Dominica. Not satisfied the UWP went to court.First the high court, then the appeals court, finally the CCJ.Every case was thrown in the garbage pail.Wonder if Juanita has an answer?

There is nothing in the laws of Dominica,or in the Dominica constitution which say Electoral Reform is a must.Every election held in Dominica has been free and fair and reflected the will of the people.Including the 1995 election won by UWP with 34.86% of votes cast.It is madness or the highest height of stupidity for anyone to believe that the majority of Dominicans will vote out DLP.The opposition problem is lies, propaganda and fake news, something they deliberately TRY to feed to the people for years.

I heard Gabriel Christian on Q95’s “hot seat” programme this morning promoting the idea that the opposition should take part in the election process even though it is flawed. Gabo, you are an intelligent man but even the CCJ has opined that
elections in Dominica should not be held in their present form. It is not enough to remove corruption from our country when Skerrit himself is the source of that infection and the only remedy is to excise that source radically. No election without electoral reform!!

In this critical moment of grave trepidation and danger, what is the role the media is playing? They have reduced themselves to just disseminating prepared scripts from mostly sources of the unethical ruling regime.

Where are the interviews from the relevant players? Where are the unbiased voices of members of the editorial boards? This unconscionable silence of the mainstream media shows a callous disregard for the governance of the country.

Finland, New Zealand, Norway and the Netherlands are the best governed countries on the globe. There is a common thread that binds these countries. All of them have a vibrant and prying PRESS.

Whosoever control the media control the minds of the people. Roosevelt controls most of the media houses in Dominica.

Right now the opposition needs to stop talking about ‘no reform no election’ and go contest the election. We cannot surrender Dominica to the failed Roosevelt Skerrit who has failed us for 22 years as he admitted.
Now is time to take the message to the communities and I call on all of the groups above to be brave, of one mind and be focused on getting rid of Skerrit!
It’s 22 yes now since Skerrit has Dominica in pain, sorrow and hardship. It first started with him burying Rosie Douglas and Pierre Charles in their first term and found himself as PM, As PM from 2005, he has been changing candidates to give the impression that it’s the weak candidates that failing. From the group that’s been with him 18 yrs only Ian, Reggie and Blackmore were untouchable until last weekend he finally fired all three of them and all those that represented the labor party of Rosie & pierro. So the only one he didn’t fire is himself as the chief failed minister! H

We said “ No reform no election. Truth is, we didn’t get reform but there shall be an election on December 6. If we don’t contest that’s what Skerrit would want because that would give him all 21 seats. Say we going to protest we would be playing right into his desire. In the world of sports or even in the lottery world in other to win it we must be in it. Right now I believe we should contest all 21 seats and go at Skerrit really hard. If UWP doesn’t want to contest as a party them go up in all 21 constituencies as independent candidates. We cannot surrender the country to Skerrit and who knows how God will help us if we give him something to work with? Yes Skerrit has the money and he thinks he can buy votes at will but he has brought Dominica on its knees and people are suffering so we just don’t know how people will vote if they get a strong message of hope. So for sake of country let’s do it my people

Well prophet, I don’t agree and we should call Skerrit’s bluff. We would look like mouldy dough and lose any respect we have left to go along with his charade of an election. Yes maybe the opposition might end up with one or two seats but what for. Selling your soul for a rep salary and being shut up and insulted in parliament. No my boy, not again. I would prefer to eat dry bread instead and be free of Skerrit. As it is we can speak more freely and make noise outside Parliament than inside. It is NO and time for action.

@The Old Prophet, you cannot give God something to work with, He works through His chosen people by His own Will. Those people’s responsibility is to obey His command, and be humble in their ways, for His glory; it does not belong to them.

So, it has to be with the Prime Minister of Dominica, who is a servant of God Almighty, on behalf of His people there. PM Skerrit has acknowledged that truth several times.

Therefore, God’s judgment will be either on the people, according to their reception towards the works of His servant, or on the servant himself, according to whether or not he did the works according to God’s Will.

If we claim to be Christians, we have to learn to allow God Almighty to have His way in us, otherwise we bring His judgment of wrath against us–maybe many of us in Dominica are going through that kind of wrath because of our attitude, not because the way PM Skerrit does his work–who knows?

21 seats doesn’t mean a thing if the election was fought by one party only. One party elections have nothing to do with democracy, quite the opposite. A one party election would damage the DLP and Skerrit more than it would do them good. I personally believe it would be the end of Skerrit and possibly the DLP as well.

Very well spoken! Skerrit was hoping all parties would run and as such endorse his snap election with all those dead people still on the register.
NO ELECTION WITHOUT ELECTORAL REFORM! If this election is only contested by the DLP, it will be the end of Skerrit and the Cabal.

    November 7, 2022

With a straight face, the PM spoke the following words to the Nation on November 3, 2022 in his Independence address: “Before I end, I wish to take this opportunity to address the issue of electoral reform. We made a commitment to the Dominican people in 2019, that we would engage an independent party to look at the issues raised about electoral reform. We acted promptly in engaging Sir Dennis Byron, former President of the Caribbean Court of Justice, former Chief Justice of the OECS Supreme Court, and Privy Councilor, to serve as sole Commissioner to investigate and advise on the issues” What was the outcome of this exercise by Sir Byron? Was the commitment made to the people in 2019 withdrawn?

This election will never be fair and credible without electoral reform. Hence, the opposition parties need to boycott this charade of an election. They should not give this flawed process a modicum of credibility.

We should not surrender Dominica to Satan and therefore we should put everything behind us and go all out to the communities with a very strong campaign to defeat him. Let’s contest all 22 seats and put away our political differences and send candidates that can be strong in various constituencies. We can beat Satan right in his trap so let’s contest and beat him. We can beat him in Laplane, Castle Bruce, Grandfond, kalinago territory, Marigot, Wesley, Bawi, St Joe, Mahault, Roseau North, South and Roseau Valley. @Satan is a Liar, if you knew the Authority, Power, and Holiness of the Almighty God, you would know he wants you to put Satan behind your back, and you would know that you are speaking blasphemy in that comment of yours.

Who is the “OUR GOD” whom you claim to with you?

Surely, he cannot be the Almighty God of Heaven and Earth, who appointed Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit, by the voice of the people of Dominica, to rule over us as Prime Minister?

So if you think that you are going to get Satan, by going up against the Prime Minister of Dominica, then you need to change your mind because I know for sure that the Almighty God is not going with you. He has and wants no dealing with Satan, who is way, way, way behind His back.

Skerritt doesn’t need fresh national elections to reshuffle the group of puppets around him. There isn’t any justification for a national elections at this time since we haven’t had the electoral reform in effect. I hope lessons were learnt from the talk of “no elections without electoral reform” last time around. The legitimate opposition parties and conscious civic groups need to organize and strategize and mobilize the few serious ones needed for whatever actions they are contemplating. Lesson learnt from the past is that a lot of citizens don’t want to get involved in open reactions to the corrupt cabal so develop plans and concepts which only requires a cadre of committed people, keep your plans and decisions close to your vest and inform on a need to know basis. Wherever possible try to widen and open crevices in the DLP for exploitation. Dominica’s salvation requires wisdom and I know that there are enough wise people in this effort. Good luck.

Johathan, are you saying that it is okay for the UWP to continue with interim leader (not completely chosen by the people) for the next 2 years, while Lennox Linton continue to be a member of Parliament, with a salary, because the people placed him there?

You suggested that “The legitimate opposition parties and conscious civic groups need to organize and strategize and mobilize the few serious ones needed for whatever actions they are contemplating”–whatever you are saying here.

Don’t you think that your suggestion would be better effective after their group has been reorganized? And is that not what this coming election will do, rather than leaving everything they way they are until late 2024?

Do not forget that Lennox simply resign as the Leader of the UWP; he is still an elected member and represents the people of Marigot. Should they not have a right make a fair choice as soon as possible, regardless if whether they choose him or not?

It seems that yours truly the PM wants to be a dictator like they do in Haiti, Dominica is becoming another Haiti one man rule for life. Time for the United Nations to step in and see what is going on and The United States too with the US Army to set things straight and punish the want to be dictator. The British should send some people too since Dominica is part of the Commonwealth and was once a colony. Yours truly the PM needs to be arrested and confined at Stock Farm in his own jail along with his henchmen running around in camouflage playing soldier. They need to meet some real soldiers.

Too many Dominicans love to complain about the government 24/7 365 but nobody ever wants to take action to change that. Well, I do but I alone cannot take down the government, WE as a people need to come together & take them down. There’s more civilians than there are politicians, we CAN get rid of them if we stick together, but unfortunately most Dominicans are just all talk. They sit on their as. all day complaining on Facebook but don’t have the guts to bring about real change. Time for political discussion has long expired, it’s now time for “civil disobedience” by those true patriots who are vehemently opposed to this dictators blatant in your face disregard for the constitutional rights of those who oppose the style and governance of the Skerritt cabal and regime.

Didn’t your CM ask his supporters to persecute opposition supporters a while back. So the CM is allowed to do that? Man, don’t make me laugh! All you Skerrit supporters are unbelievable. Greed has blinded all you and made you stupid!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s too much talk and too little action. All right thinking, fair minded, patriotic Dominicans should forget temporarily about the politicians, take the bull by the horn, and disrupt the status quo by shutting down the country with massive street demonstrations.

If Dominicans allow Roosevelt to have his way on this one, Dominicans are doomed for generations to come. Dictatorship, corruption, poverty, injustice, police brutality, fraudulent elections, joblessness, heinous crimes, dysfunction of the civil service , anarchy will render life in Dominica unlivable.

The time for ACTION is NOW!
