PM intends three pieces of electoral reform legislation to be passed into law as soon as March 2025

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that his government will go to parliament in March to have three pieces of legislation passed into law with respect to electoral reform.

He made the disclosure during a press conference held recently.

Three bills on electoral reform in Dominica, namely the Electoral Commission Bill 2024, House of Assembly Elections Bill 2024, and Registration of Electors Bill 2024, were presented in parliament on December 16, 2024, for the first reading.

“In respect to the electoral reform, we are hoping that we can go to parliament in the month of March to have these three pieces of legislation passed into law and to give the electoral commission the authority to effect the provisions of the law and to allow for electoral reform to be completed in Dominica,” he said.

According to Skerrit, a parliamentary committee was established consisting of six members of the opposition and 12 members on the government’s side.

“So, it’s a two-to-one committee. In terms of the proposition of the parliament it is extremely fair,” he indicated.

He further pointed out that Honourable Dr. Vince Henderson will act as  co-chair on the government’s side while Honourable Jesma Paul-Victor Parliamentary Representative for the Salisbury Constituency as the other co-chair, “ to ensure that all views can contend and there is balance in the chairing and consideration.”

“What this committee has been charged with is to visit and to look at all of the recommendations the various stakeholders have made post the publication of the Bills, on the government website, and those Bills that have been taken to parliament for first reading, and to see which of these suggestions/recommendations could be considered for inclusion in the draft Bills that will go before the parliament.”

Skerrit noted that this will be the final public consultation exercise.

He said the public will be informed on the particular date in March soon.

The UWP know the cannot win an election in Dominica. They cannot go house to house, that is why they are always on q95 morning, noon and night. They cannot talk to the more than than 6,000 people benefitting financially from the housing revolution. They cannot talk the 5,000 plus getting a salary from NEP.They cannot approach the 2,700 senior citizens getting $300 monthly. They cannot face the people employed in the yes we care, and the cannot face the majority of employees at Clear harbor.Mike Wallace tried campaigning at Bath Estate, ask him what happened.Just like supporters of UWP left them the hundreds in 2019 (2014 17,558 In 2019 16,424)so will it be in the next election. The reality on the ground is UWP cannot win,the other political parties know that.Too much corruption, victimization, greed and lies between 1995 and 2000.The people are afraid of UWP,they want to stop all social programmes the people are convinced of that.

The Electoral Commission has been sidelined by those who do not want genuine, meaningful electoral reform that would ensure FREE and FAIR elections. None, not one of the recommendations of the election observers, both regional and inter -national, the general public, the legal Luminary, Sir Byron, who was paid handsomely to advise on such matters have been taken onboard.

How could any legislation be passed, in this 21st. Century, re. elections, a matter that could have National consequences, to legitimize illegal acts and not to eradicate fraud?
If CARICOM member States have implemented reforms to make their elections free and Fair with VID cards with bio metrics, Campaign Finance laws, complete Re-registration to clean the bloated Voters’ list as well as equal access to the State media, why the stubbornness to do the same here? Smell a rat!!!!!!! The Country need to breathe clean air of democracy, Free and Fair elections. Yes we can!!!!!

Skerrit just wasting time with UWP and their blue ignorant puppets. All the do is give the public false information, with all the know everything wizards, and all their degrees in education, they do not know how to win an election. In 2025 the only constituency with a UWP candidate is Marigot. That is between Delbert Paris and Lennox Linton one undermining the other.Matt Peltier is a political expert supporting UWP he should be the blue candidate for Pointe Michel.Tyrone Blessings Anthony another blue political guru,he should represent St.Joseph.Johnson Boston, another blue puppet should go for Mahaut.Skerrit just wasting people’s time with a dead UWP chupes.

Without crucial electoral reforms such as a new voter’s list, campaign finance reform, voting in the constituency where one resides, st cetera, the Liar-in-Chief knows his scandal plagued, corrupt party bounds to fail in the upcoming national elections if the UWP do the hard work.

Let me stress. To remove an incumbent, entrenched, corrupt and sinful administration from power, is no easy feat. This is a Herculean task. The electorate needs to be energized and mobilized. Only the strong support of a majority restive and determined populace can boot this lawless kleptocracy from hanging on to power.

STUPIDNESS Skerrit talking, what opposition, opposition will never agree to anything from the government. The majority of Dominicans do not care a rat’s A about electoral reform,if they did hundreds would attend UWP stupid town hall meetings.I am already mad about Skerrit and his reconfirmation, for that Dominicans should revolt. No reconfirmation.
