The United Progressive Party offers heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Anette Sandford and to the Kalinago people in making such a path-breaking choice. We hail the landslide victory of Mrs. Anette Sandford in the election for Chief of the Kalinago People as historically, politically, culturally pertinent for a number of reasons.
Β First of all, it signifies a giant stride for women in general and Kalinago women in particular, on the road to achieving complete gender equality in the country. The significance of this cannot be overestimated because, if Dominica and its various communities are to progress, women must be accorded full rights with men at every level of society.
Β Secondly, it signifies a shift in the dominance of the ruling Labour Party which, despite its almost quarter of century in power, has left the Kalinago people less independent than they were at the beginning of the century.
Β Thirdly, it represents a significant cultural shift in the role and visibility of the Kalinago community on the broader spectrum. With humility and determination, the United Progressive Party declares itself ready to stand with Mrs. Sandford and the Kalinago people in the age-long quest to take their just, rightful, and dignified place in the affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Among a myriad of other matters, we would like to see improvements in the legal and custom practices in the area of land use, succession, employment, school curriculum as well as the sport of cricketβ¦.
Β It is only appropriate for us to pay proper homage to the memory of our brave Kalinago ancestors who set such a valiant record of resistance against foreign oppression, and to honour their brave deeds. In honouring them we strengthen ourselves.
Β The Kalinago people are the foundational population of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and any shift in this structural demographic base is going to have an effect throughout society.
Β We have no doubt that under Mrs. Sanford’s rule as Kalinago Chief, better days are ahead for the Kalinago people!

I’m really ecstatic for Annette Sanford. Her success in this campaign should be a template on how to win. Hard work, pounding the pavement, house to house, eye to eye contact, shaking hands, lending a listening ear to constituents, selling your development plans.
Dr. Thomson Fontaine believes sitting in studio behind a microphone, talking to the people from remote distances, keeping an economic conference in an expensive setting where the average citizen can ill-afford, are ways to be victorious at the polls. UWP will forever remain in the wilderness wth this stratagem.
UWP – absenteeism, remote leadership, boring talk, occasional visits, entitlement is not a winning strategy. UWP needs to emulate the work ethics, consistency, determination and passion as Mrs Sanford to remove the gluttonous birdbrain (Roosevelt) and his subservient congregants

I just had to respond to this one, because i concur with you 100%. Staying at Q-95 and talk will take the UWP nowhere. The work has to be done on the ground, and it’s largely ignored by this UWP party. After the 2019 general election, the UWP candidate in my constituency disappeared, and noone is on the ground not even as a care taker doing any political work. I am certain that there are other constituencies like that. I called Dr Fontain’s number to talk to him about that, the phone rang until the cows come home’, NO ANSWER!
Those guys make politics appear so difficult, when it is really a simple science. Don’t go the people just a few weeks before an election. They will reject you, and i agree with them.

I thought Joshua Francis was going to reveal that Anette Sanford is one of his candidates just as he did when he announced on Q95 that Tony Charles, the parlrep of Marigot, is a member of his party so he could throw controversy in the Kalinago Chief just like he did in the parliamentary opposition and caused us to be without an opposition leader.
