Attorney General Levi Peter’s return to Parliament on November 10, 2023, has evoked outrage and criticism from Rosie Sparks Women, a women’s rights organization in Dominica. The group has condemned what it says is the government’s alleged racist and abusive behavior towards women and girls, particularly the indigenous Kalinago community.
Levi Peter had previously made a public apology to Mrs. Anette Sanford following an incident in Parliament on September 27th where, in criticizing the parliamentary opposition’s decision to nominate her for the position of President, he referred to her as a “drumstick”.
According to a press statement released by Rosie Sparks Women, Peter’s conduct in Parliament was “racist, abusive and shameless,” particularly towards women and girls, including the indigenous Kalinagos of Dominica.

What would otherwise be a legit complaint now comes across as disingenuous, out of touch and downright stupid. Levi Peter is not resigning over this minor infraction. You have milked it enough for political mileage. Move on!

This protest has now gone on for far too long. Okay, Mr Levi finally resigns under pressure and the opposition (UWP) declares victory and then what? Would this action change the political climate on island? I don’t think so. We’re just looking at who can score the most political points out of this saga.
Looking at the entire situation from a non partisan point of view, this case is very easy to understand, that is, “Every crime is not deserving of capital punishment”. The AG has apologized, the PM who is his boss accepted the apology, said the language used by the AG did not meet the threshold for his resignation so let’s move on. What more don’t folks understand. The PM has declared the matter closed. To continue with this protest is a complete waste of time and energy.
To continue saying that Mr Levi’s statement was directed at all Dominican women is disingenuous as well as referring to him as racist and sexist. Keep in mind he supported Mrs Burton’s candidacy.

Never heard anything of a woman’s right organization in Dominica, until they try to use the American civil rights activist Rosa Parks name in their mess; one whom died not knowing that a place such as Dominica exist.
Some dumb idiot not knowing anything about the late Rosa Parks made the claim that she was not a political activist.
After I argued they should not use or involve the innocent name in their Dominica nonsense; they now think it is appropriate to shift from “Rosa Parks” to Rosie Sparks, whatever that is!
In any event the similar sounding name in my opinion, is what in Common Law still constitute an infringement:
Infringement is an unauthorized use of a copyrighted work or name, the mere fact that there is a similarity in both names is an infringement!

What is most egregious of Levi Peter derogatory description of Dame Annette Sanford is that the lady is a most outstanding citizens of Dominica. She volunteers to uplift the community and helps the poorest among us; she is of impeccable character, a genuine role model for every young girl and boy. The question is, can we say these things about any member of the ruling concoction of shady characters?
