Antigua and Barbuda heading back to polls for by-election later this month

(L-r) Dwayne George and Kelvin Shugy Simon

Residents of Antigua and Barbuda are preparing to head back to the polls on October 24 to vote in a by-election, nine months after the general elections.

The country’s leader, Gaston Browne, has announced the date for the by-election, which is an opportunity for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate Dwayne George to secure his seat in the Ministry of Finance. Browne emphasized that the by-election is not about George, but about the constituents.

The race will be contested by four candidates: Dwayne George from the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, Kelvin Shugy Simon from the UPP, Nigel Bascus from the Missing Link-Voice of the People (MLVOP) Party, and Andrew Antonio from the Democratic National Alliance Candidate (DNA).

Simon had previously won the seat for the constituency in the January 18 election, but he resigned as the Parliamentary Representative on June 7.

According to the law, Simon’s resignation triggered a by-election, which must be held within 120 days. Simon had stepped down to avoid negatively affecting his constituents with a prolonged legal battle. The ruling ABLP had filed an election petition, questioning Simon’s eligibility for office, and he believed that this could lead to a lengthy legal dispute that would be detrimental to the constituents’ interests.

Ibo again? Ibo Ibo look about yourself.
You engrossed yourself too much in the political fiasco. You handpicked persons like PM Antigua and PM Dominica and you spit out adjectives at these persons. You say that the Dominica PM is uneducated? Are you serious? What are your qualifications? You seem arrogant and after you, there is no one. You spew out hateful comments,
As I have said before this is not good for your health. You seem to be obsessed. You are just stressing yourself. Stress brings on sickness.
Ibo love is what we need. We cannot relate without love.
This does not mean that I support anyone. For once someone advises you , you believe that the person is a supporter.

I always read your comments, which show pure hateful comments (for one man and now the Antigua PM). You cannot continue so hateful. Introspect and take care of yourself.

Gaston Browne handpicked imposter has not even a remote chance of winning this by-election. About six weeks ago he was vigorously campaigning for his opponent Kelvin Shugy Simon. He told the constituents that Mr. Simon was the best candidate to represent them.

Does Dwayne George think the people are so dumb as to elect him, a naked hypocrite, to be their parliamentary representative? This by-election will not even be close. Kelvin Shugy Simon by a monumental margin will easily reclaim his seat.

Gaston! This present term in government is your last ‘Hurray!’ Good riddance for not only the citizens of Antigua & Barbuda but the Caribbean also. Take a poll of citizens living in the OECS and it will reveal that hypocritical Gaston Browne and uneducated Roosevelt Surfeit are the two most reviled rulers.
