APP statement on increase in gun violence

Dominica has seen an increase in gun violence in recent times and the Alternative Peoples’ Party is gravely concerned and heartbroken. In a friendly country such as Dominica, we do not expect to hear of such unfriendly acts. As a Christian nation it catapults us into the harsh reality of how far we are from upholding the biblical values we cherished just a few years ago.

Our nation is suffering at the hands of individuals who feel that it is okay to take the life of their fellow brother. This new trend sends a chilling message, that life is not valuable anymore, and forces us to ask where we have gone wrong as a nation.

We need to examine the root causes of gun violence in our society. As a nation, we have witnessed the breakdown in the fabric of the economic and social life of the community. We have borne witness to some in authority commit illegal acts and go unpunished. We have seen an incompetent justice system which leads citizens to think that taking the law in their own hands is the best way to obtain justice. There are so many unsolved murders and still no investments in forensic experts. These are all factors that encourage gun violence.

We need to find solutions in the interest of all. An APP government will address the underlying contributions to gun violence and put preventative measures in place. We will enact stiffer penalties for possession and use of illegal firearms and promote a culture where gun violence is completely unacceptable.

An APP government will recognize gun violence as a critical and preventable public health problem and will develop policies to help in eradicating this issue. We will nurture a people who will look for peaceful solutions to conflict, and not violence.

The Alternative Peoples Party pleads with its people to try and solve their problems in a holistic, non-violent manner so that peace and love can triumph in our land. Too many mothers are suffering, too many of our children are now fatherless.

APP sympathizes with the families of all affected and we pray for strength for them. We do hope that everyone involved will heal in time and that justice will prevail.

God Bless Dominica.

CDPF it’s time to rope in these “hooligans” where are the SSU; TASK FORCE; DRUG SQUAD and Special Branch what are you guys doing? or are you com.plic.it with these criminal elements as our Politicians allegedly are, when they speak of their “snipers and navy seals”; be careful these same illegal guns will be turned on you if you don’t move rapidly to get rid of that menace to our once tranquil society.

      Tell them again Ole Police.

Man people are literally scared of walking around Dca at nights. I mean everywhere in Dca is unsafe and the politicians know it. Even serving officers will tell they only walk around especially in isolated places when they are armed. People are fighting in public and off duty officers are hiding instead of intervening. Never thought I would have missed the police of the 80’s so badly. Those were REAL officers especially under Mamo. You could recognize them from a crowd a mile away.

When its alleged that the chief has seen an increase in people asking for private firearm licenses (including from serving officers) and does not ask himself what is the underlying reason for such an increase then we know chu-nou-fan. Most serving officers don’t even plant “side gardens” anymore for fear of being attacked there. Soon the regular farmer will start abandoning the fields and guess what will be the result…..TIME FOR CHANGE PEOPLE

There was a time when police was free to act.Government never interfered.Since UWP was formed in 1988 they went after the police accusing them of police brutality. When the UWP won in 1995 they daycalay the force.Today it is even worse for the police with UWP in opposition. The has the ability to launch an attack on the increase in crime, but, the division put by UWP has left the police with an I DOE CARE attitude.

From it’s inception the APP signaled that it’s approach to politics was to work with the Skerritt government and as such I hold them responsible for being a part of the problem and not a part of the solution. In this long winded statement of hot air from the APP they refuse to mention the key aspects of the crime problem in the country and lay the blame squarely in the lap of the labour party. The politicians have contaminated the police force and all other departments of government and as such there is a breakdown of the system. Even the government is involved in facilitating crimes. The economy is not strong and is dependent on selling of passports and the people are forced to pledge allegiance to the cabal to progress. This is what the APP signaled it was working with. It has not rescinded that philosophy so coming like wolves in sheep clothing will not fool anyone. APP is a spent force. Good bye you two-timing Judas.

” In a friendly country such as Dominica, ”

Did I read that correctly, or am I in a trance: am I in a half-conscious state of mind, am I lost, or have I lost comprehension of the Cambridge English language, or “Dominica English” which I was told is different; since English words in Dominica does not mean the same as the English words spoken elsewhere!

Let me say Dominica is not a friendly place as you believe lady; either you don’t know or refuse to accept reality; however pulling the wool over your eye will not change the fact that ours is not a friendly country.
I am born in Wesley, went home to attend my late father funeral, I took one of my daughters along with me.

We are not tourist to Dominica, even if at the time we were dressed differently; Some guy with coconut oil all over his body, a rubber hat on his head, some foot-ware made out of tire (tyer), and some nasty looking dread-lucks:

      Con:
That man had some scraped coconut shell laced with vanish on strings on a long rod selling, over his shoulders; he demanded my daughter buy his crap; my daughter told him she does not have any need for that.
The oily man began ranting at my daughter; so I intervene; all hell broke loose; he unleashed his profanities on me and my kid, even got to a point where he called me a burger-man (homosexual) in Antigua they say bull-poop; if that is friendliness, I don’t know, there might be cannibalism in the streets of Dominica.
What if I was a tourist, what impression would leave with?

How many foreigners, women got raped in Dominica by our friendly men, I can name more than one!
I am reading one person whom directed these words to you ” find out the undelying causes of this gun violence.” Unless they lied to me I believe he also was a victim of gun violence in Dominica, when he was robbed at gunpoint!

I doh saying him name cause I doh no if is true!

      Ask him!

“An APP government will recognize gun violence as a critical and preventable public health problem and will develop policies to help in eradicating this issue.” Come again, this is just loose political talk. If the APP have a viable plan to eradicate gun violence, why wouldn’t they reveal it to the people of Dominica? Does the APP have any idea who is involved in the gun violence and why and how the guns are getting into the country?

Your point is a very valid one. Dishonest politicians are always vague. There give you generality but no specificity.

The App is not a credible nor complete political party. They are a loose group of political aspirants trying ‘a ting’. To this date they have not held a convention. They see politics as a quick avenue to riches.

Gun violence is rampant everywhere today and happening everyday and night. Dominica is no exception to the rule. Crimes are committed everyday in Jamaica, Trinidad, St Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent. In America it is even worse. Crimes are committed in churches, schools, malls, on the Highways. There is a lot of road rage going on on the streets and roads in America. You overtake them, they shoot you. You driving too slow, they shoot you. You get their lane, they shoot you. There is a plethora of guns everywhere and people have easy access to guns at even a young age. Drugs, poverty, lack of education, family breakdowns, they all contribute to gun violence. These are the problems we need to address and to figure out how we approach these problems which have become a world problem. Another problem is too much violence seen on both TV and in the theaters and, we need to remind ourselves also that there are lots of copycats out there. So, don’t blame Dominica for what is happening today.

I was expecting something different from the regular everyday commentary. Yes you will do this, that and the other, but that’s no different from what we hear and read over and over again. Give us some concrete ideas/ plans that the APP will adopt to realize their objectives. Tell us what exactly and how. It doesn’t have to be in detail, but sufficient “meat” to satisfy us that you are different and able to successfully achieve your objectives.

Are you still alive? If you want to be relevant become a social advocacy group. You have failed miserably as a political entity.

If elections were he!d today, you would not even manage to get ten (10) votes. You have become just a menace to society. Stick to your regular jobs and be the best at them.
