The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Dominica caters to youth aged 14 to 24, offering a comprehensive training program centered on skills development, physical activities, community service, and adventurous journeys. This initiative aims to foster personal growth over a defined timeframe, preparing individuals for life’s challenges irrespective of their backgrounds, cultures, or abilities. Unlike a competitive endeavor, participating in the Award constitutes a personal journey of self-improvement, pushing individuals to surpass their own limits and acknowledging their accomplishments at varying levels of difficulty.
Established in Dominica since 1968, the Award holds a prestigious legacy despite intermittent periods of dormancy. Presently, the National Executive is dedicated to reinvigorating the program across the entire island. Efforts to promote and raise awareness have commenced in collaboration with secondary schools, cadet corps, and other uniformed groups, with four established community chapters already in operation (Petite Soufriere, Grand Fond, Roseau, and Woodford Hill).
Scheduled for Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Annual General Meeting of the Awards will convene under the theme “Youth Engagement for Personal Development and Community Support through the Award Programme” at the Public Service Union Conference Room, starting at 10:00 a.m. The agenda will include the presentation of the Annual Report by the National Director and a keynote address by Merrita Hyacinth, National President of Junior Chambers International. Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Award’s Patron, will also grace the occasion with her presence.
Excellent move. I would encourage every young Dominican to join this organisation. One learns so much. Was a member during my student days at DGS in the 70’s. Remember we were the first to measure Mt. Trois Pitons using trigonometry.
Enough nonsenseŘ Think and save your country and your passport Rebuild your relationship with England, Canada and Ireland Skrit is an idiot, don’t leave your fate in his hands
Is because of the relationship between England, Ireland and Canada we are where we are today. We must rethink those relationships. They know what they done to you and the value of those relationships that’s why they send you aid to look like they are good people, but look where they’re not pointing.
