Former senator and DBMC chairman Vanoulst Jno Charles to receive official funeral

The Government of Dominica has announced plans for an Official Funeral to honor the late Vanoulst Jno Charles, recognizing his significant contributions to the nation’s agricultural sector and overall development. Mr. Jno Charles, who served as a Senator in Dominica’s First Parliament from November 3rd, 1978 to June 21st, 1979, passed away on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.

Throughout his career, Mr. Jno Charles made notable strides in agriculture, beginning as a dedicated citrus and banana farmer. He held pivotal positions such as Chairman of the Dominica Banana Marketing Corporation (DBMC) and President of the Windward Islands Banana Growers Association (WINBAN). Under his leadership, he spearheaded initiatives that elevated benefits for Windward Islands farmers and expanded export volumes from Dominican growers, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Beyond his agricultural endeavors, Mr. Jno Charles also served the state in various capacities, including Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and Commissioner of the Integrity Commission. Recognizing his distinguished service, he was honored with Dominica’s second-highest national accolade, the Sisserou Award of Honour, in 2008. His active involvement in national politics and community activism solidified his status as an influential and highly respected figure in his home constituency of St. Joseph. The Government of Dominica, via a statement, extended heartfelt condolences to Mr. Vanoulst Jno Charles’s family and friends, wishing him a peaceful rest.

Roseau, Dominica- March 1, 2024: The Government of Dominica will accord the late Vanoulst Jno Charles an Official Funeral in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Dominica’s development in the field of agriculture. Mr. Jno-Charles was a Senator in the First Parliament of Dominica from November 3rd, 1978 to June 21st, 1979.
Mr. Jno Charles, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.

He began his career in agriculture as a fulltime citrus and banana farmer and was Chairman of the Dominica Banana Marketing Corporation (DBMC) and President of the Windward Islands Banana Growers Association (WINBAN). During his tenure, he was credited for increasing benefits to Windward Islands farmers and expanding export volume from Dominican growers.

Mr. Jno Charles also served the state as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and Commissioner of the Integrity Commission, and was the recipient of Dominica’s second highest national honour, the Sisserou Award of Honour, in 2008.

He was actively involved in national politics and community activism and was an influential and highly-respected member of the St. Joseph Constituency. The Government of Dominica extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Vanoulst Jno Charles on his passing. May his soul rest in eternal rest.

    its a shame how independent grown men would put their tale between their legs and follow stupidity just to have frens in position, this is the same government that brought several defferent armies to Dominica, just to bombed salsbury people, like what you now seeing in gaza, i say this to say that, vanoulst never stand for righteousness, all his ancestors are from bawi, so they are gonna mash him up, on the other side, for never distancing him self from this wickid and evil government,,much less for this same evil government to be involve in his burial…am sorry for vanoulst,.our worldly association without virtue, cannot let us pass through , the gate of light….but i sure, will say a prayer for him, that he will get through, because he may have tried to be good at the end of his, physical life..very nice man with abit of subliminal prejudice’s

    Wow! This man was still alive? Always had a smile on his face as I can recall. His younger brother and sisters are very nice people. I wish them strength and comfort.
