
Grammy award-winning artiste of Jamaica, Mikayla Simpson also known as “Koffee” and her band will be in Dominica for the first time to perform during one of the island’s major events, ‘Carnival Gopwell’ Volume 2, to be held at Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
The artiste was scheduled to perform in Dominica during ‘Carnival Gopwell’ event scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020, however, due to the dreaded Covid-19 Pandemic the show was postponed.
Organizer of the event, Dane ‘Danejahdane’ Smalling told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview that plans are in place for the grand concert this weekend.
“Everything is going smoothly for the show,” he said. “Preparations so far are going nicely, we have everything on point.”
He continued, “It is a big show, it is not just a jam based on what Dominicans generally attend. It is a concert with a live band, with back-up singers, dancers…”
Smalling pointed out that this is the second edition of ‘Carnival Gopwell’ and he is proud to host Koffee and her band.
“I am proud of this one because we are not behind time,” Smalling revealed.
He explained that most of the other Caribbean counterparts haven’t gotten the chance to see Koffee perform live yet.
“We are advanced in this one,” he stated.
The Jamaican rising reggae star is well-known for her popular songs “Toast”, “Rapture”, “Haffi Make it”, “Blazin” among others. She created history by becoming the youngest reggae act and first female artist to win the Grammy for “Best Reggae Album”.
Other acts on the line-up will include, Jemere Morgan (son of Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage) Colton T, Triple K International, Signal band, Jourdin Pauline, Dheno-Black Diamond, Major Mystic, Spawner, Unstoppable Djs, and much more.
Early bird tickets are on sale at Depex Colour Lab and Bullseye Pharmacy in Goodwill and Portsmouth for only $50, (discounted from the regular price of $60), and a $70 advance ticket/gate price. VIP is $300 all-inclusive.
The show is expected to begin at 9:00 p.m.

The first ‘Carnival Gopwell’ event was held for the first time in Dominica in 2017 and featured DJ Private Ryan as part of the line-up.
