In light of the unpredictable weather conditions brought about by Hurricane Tammy, the Government of Dominica has decided to reschedule the Heritage Day celebrations. Initially set for Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Woodford Hill, the event will now take place on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

The updated itinerary for Heritage Day is as follows:

  • Church Service: The day will kick off with a soul-stirring church service at 10:00 am, fostering a sense of unity and celebration.
  • Cultural Exhibition: At 12:00 pm, following the church service, there will be a cultural exhibition that will display Dominica’s rich heritage and traditions. Attendees are in for a treat!
  • Cultural Gala: The day’s main event is the cultural gala at 3:00 pm. Here, attendees will get to experience Dominica’s heritage through music, dance, and various cultural performances.

The Government of Dominica, in announcing the change of date, apologized to all those affected by this postponement.

With the announcement of the new date, Dominican residents and visitors now have the opportunity to participate, free from worry about the weather, in what is expected to be a culturally vibrant Heritage Day celebration in Woodford Hill on November 5, 2023.

Heritage Day marks the beginning of the annual Creole Week/Simenn Kweyol celebrations in Dominica. Each year a different village is chosen to host these celebrations to showcase the island’s unique cultural heritage and rich traditions. Heritage Day brings attention to the s host village and allows locals and visitors alike to appreciate its unique cultural accomplishments and notable personalities who have contributed significantly to preserving Dominica’s rich history and culture.
