The President of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, has made it clear that there is no plan for disorder, breach of peace, lawlessness, or violence at the upcoming national assembly to be held at the River Bank in Roseau in the vicinity of the arch on Sunday.
His comments came following statements made by Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie who held a press conference on Thursday revealing that he received intelligence gathered from social media and other credible sources that, there are threats circulated on social media by a group of people believed to be associated with the meeting to commit “lawlessness and create violence” during the meeting.
“Some of the threats are to procure gasoline, to burn the City of Roseau,” Valerie revealed. “There is also a threat to create an island-wide blackout, so as to facilitate the commission of illegal acts against persons including the Minister of National Security.”
However, Linton rubbished these statements made by Valerie saying that it is “untrue.“
“The national assembly at the arch at the River Bank in Roseau on Sunday 25th February 2024 is a peaceful get together of people from all over Dominica committed to rescue, restore and rebuild Dominica for the benefit of all the sons and daughters of Dominica,”
Linton said. “There is no plan for disorder, breach of the peace, lawlessness or violence.”
Linton believes that the intention and the overriding organizing commitment is to positive, constructive communication and engagement of the people, by the people, for the people, working stronger together to save Dominica from the threat of corrupt, lawless, selfish, greedy, and incompetent governance.
According to him, the Roosevelt Skerrit administration does not want this meeting to happen and so the police authority under Acting Chief Davidson Valerie has been tasked to scare people away from the meeting by concocting the story of a concerted plan for lawlessness and violence during the meeting.
“We know the words of National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore that if the organizers of the meeting fail to control any lawlessness, they will be held responsible and culpable for any lawlessness manifesting on the streets of Roseau or any part of this country,” Linton remarked.
He continued, “The organizers known to the police high command are Lennox Linton and Nicholas George, we met with the Chief of Police and his team on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 10am.”
Linton added, “They know very well we are not involved in plans of lawlessness of any kind, yet we are threatened by the National Security Minister that whatever lawlessness happens on that day whether by the police or agents of the government facilitated by the police, we will be held responsible, culpable, meaning we will be jailed.”
Furthermore, Linton stated that the people who will participate in the national assembly on Sunday are committed to peace, good order, and lawful behaviour.
“We are not afraid,” he remarked. “We serve a Mighty God who sees and knows all things. We will assemble in peace, we will assemble in full obedience to the rule of law and we will succeed with the mission to rescue and rebuild our beloved country.”
Having Blackmoore and Valerie in charge of national security is no different from
putting a sheep and a ghost to keep the henhouse safe from predators. Folly!

The government has outlined its plan, so even if the meeting participants conclude the rally peacefully, expect there to somehow miraculously attain acts of “lawlessness, and created violence” as they put it. I call on all participants to conduct themselves appropriately within the confines of the law, and give the government no reason for rash reactions. At the same time, if the government has collated “intelligence” that there will be “lawlessness and created violence”, one of their responsibilities is to investigate this “intelligence” and work to keep the participants safe. This sounds like “we know or HAVE some people that are going to carry out this “lawlessness and create violence” and we will let it happen and then blame you”. Typical “strong man rule” type of move. Putin and Stalin are famous for these types of operations. Mr. Government/people protector, do your job, and, investigate and pursue the “intelligence” that you have, and stop the act before it happens.
Mr Linton has confirmed the meeting between Mr Valerie, George and himself regarding safety issues at the upcoming gathering scheduled for Sunday, February 25th. Mr Linton has dismissed the concerns as “rubbish” and felt that Mr Valerie’s statement was designed to create fear amongst potential event attendees.
Question. Did Mr Linton ask to see the credible information that Mr Valerie mentioned? If not, why not? Is it because it was not beneficial to his cause? Facts are facts therefore when an individual makes the claim that Mr Valerie’s statement is rubbish, the individual ought to be able to back it up with facts.
Mr Linton claims that the government does not want the event to take place. This is an untrue statement. Mr Blackmore gave the green light for Sunday’s gathering so how could he honestly make such a statement.
In the end, I hope all goes well with the protest meeting. Violence is never the solution to any problem.

I will repeat myself. Did Mr Linton ask to see the evidence Mr Valerie spoke of before dismissing it as rubbish or had he already drawn his own conclusion even before the meeting? I say this because in Mr Linton’s mind, he had already concluded that this was scare tactics meant to keep protest goers away. The logical thing to have done was to ask to see the proof. Mr Linton never said the evidence did not exist, he simply labeled the meeting as rubbish.
I am certain I read Mr Linton’s piece correctly and there is no way you can dispute what I wrote that is, he never said anything about the evidence Mr Valerie spoke of.
