Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton has said the Champagne Beach located in Pointe Michel is being elevated to world-class level, to create more opportunities, more jobs, and greater economic activity for Dominicans and visitors alike.

She was speaking at the signing and groundbreaking ceremony for the $1.7 million Champagne Beach Modern Tourism Reception Facility held in Pointe Michel on Thursday.

“Today is a significant step forward in our nation’s commitment to develop all our natural wonders with modern multi-facilities that will provide our guests with comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experiences,” Charles-Pemberton said.

She continued “I am very pleased that we are about to construct a resilient building to provide world-class service reflecting the fame and beauty of Champagne Beach.”

According to her, the facility will have spaces for vendors, restaurant operators, tour operators, as well as changing rooms.

“Guests to Champagne will be able to relax and enjoy the scenic view of the area,” Charles-Pemberton explained.

Moreover, she said these facilities were also designed to facilitate everyone including the differently abled.

As Minister responsible for Tourism and the Parliamentary Representative of the Pointe Michel, Charles-Pemberton said she is aware of the immense potential of Pointe Michel, Soufriere, Gallion, and Scottshead hold for tourism development.

Meanwhile, Jullan Defoe stated that the development of the facility is a testament to the power of collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the blue economy sectors, “as the Minister responsible for the blue economy I am honoured to be here today and to celebrate this groundbreaking moment.”

“The agreement signed between the Government of Dominica and the CARICOM Developing Fund is a significant milestone in our journey to enhance the visitor experience at Champagne Beach, while safeguarding our precious marine resources.”

Defoe mentioned also that Champagne Beach will not only enhance the visitors’ experience but also generate economic opportunities for the local communities.

“This project will create new jobs, both during the construction phase and in ongoing operations,” he indicated. “Much-needed employment and income for our citizens.”

Furthermore, he noted that this investment in the tourism infrastructure is an investment in the livelihood of Dominicans, empowering them to thrive and prosper.

“As we embark on this exciting journey let us remember that success of this project lies in our ability to strike a delicate balance using economic development and environmental stewardship,” Defoe explained.

How much will it cost? Has an EIA been done? Who will construct (MMC, Range or Chinese), Has a public tender gone out for local and regional contractors to submit proposals? When is it expected to be complete? Will this be done in collaboration with the owners of Irie Safari who own the property where the dive shop was? Or are you hijacking their project i know they spoke to you about?

Notice how Charles doesn’t sign the contract? She knows how this is all likely to go down. Not by accident does she have an ambitious and extremely naive PS.

These people have no conscience. How can they sign a contract for $1.7million to build a glorified changing room that isn’t needed when that money could do so much to help Dominicans who are living in poverty. They should hang their heads in shame.

I see the national flag of Dominica is featured very conspicuously in the room where lies are fed to the public. What this minister is doing along with her cronies is desecrating the flag.

I’m not surprised what they do to the flag. If they could sell the national birds they are capable of anything bad.

There are 195 countries in the world. Not one of them but Dominica has ever sold its national bird to a foreign entity. This notorious lying regime told the public they were sent to Germany for medical attention and would be repatriated. They are still in a foreign land after seven years. LIARS! Roosevelt and his gangsters have no credibility. The same lies they are perpetrating with electoral reform. Inveterate, compulsive, spontaneous LIARS areRoosevelt and his adherents.

Lady! You talk too much! Don’t tell me show me. A well done is better than well said.

Minister, being all talk speaks volumes about you. The more you talk, offering only empty promises, the less attention we pay to you.

This concoction of liars and phonies masquerading as a government, over-promises and always under-delivers. Only their ignorant diehards believe their balderdash.

Has an EIA been carried out? Where are the designs? Who will be contracted to execute the project? Is this being in collaboration with the owners of Irie Safari who own the property on the corner of did you hijack their comprehensive development plans and modified them to do your own substandard development?

Why do we need this when there are people who can’t afford to put food on the table every day ? If Dominica were really a ‘nature island’ there would be a moratorium on snorkeling and diving Champagne Reef every 2 or 3 years to allow it to recover (tube sponges, for example, are being killed by people kicking them). How will they prevent cement, sand, silt and other contruction debris from choking sensitive corals and other marine life ? Remember, if concrete were a country, it would be the third largest polluter in the world, yet Charles and Valmond seem set on covering the island in it. This frenzied focus on tourism will spoil beautiful Dominica in the long run.
