PM says over $2.4 million to be paid to police in rest days owed

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that over $2.4 million will be paid to police officers in Dominica for rest days owed.

He made the disclosure during a press conference held recently.

“Police have raised an issue with us in regards to their off days, that is, the off days that they were entitled to,” he said. “We have been having discussions with the Police Welfare Association, the only delay in that is because there were no proper records outside of the SSU unit in regards to how many rest days officers would have had, and so we come to an agreement with the Police Welfare Association where there we no recorded rest days, especially in the out districts.”

Prime Minister Skerrit continued, “And so the amount will be in excess of $2.4 million.”

He said those payments will be made at the end of May 2023.

Furthermore, Skerrit commended the PWA for their professionalism.

“This is good news for the police and I want to commend the PWA for their professionalism in their engagement and coming to the resolution in the best interest of their membership,” he stated.

Confused Jacka.Skerrit is the Prime Minister,he is head of government,he is the supervisor of government, any problem all of all you aholes blame Skerrit. Now we know that senior Jacka does not live in,not has he visited Dominica in more than 20 years. When UWP was kicked out of office for corruption, victimization, lies and greed the national debt was $450,000,000.They owed DSS more that $33,000,000. The owed one of their own more than $5,000,000 for building materials .When UWP won election in 1995 the population was 69,000,when they were kicked out in 2000 the population was 68,000…………………………………………..That is the truth which DNO do not like to post, using Disclaimer and awaiting moderation.Every fake news, propaganda and lies against Skerrit is ok.I hope that Jacka know Dominica has more than 38,501 register vehicles out of a population of 73,000.

Ok, while I appreciate that the situation has been “resolved”, but what has been put in place to ensure that there is not a repeat? 2.4 million is not ten cents and that seems to be something that has been ongoing. Money and Payoffs do not “resolve” problems
    that are systemic.

Of course, this is exactly what dictators do. They ensure that their armed forces are kept happy so that they will go beyond the call of duty to bat for their provider.

All civil servants need a well deserved increase in their salaries especially the teachers and nurses. The regime has badly mismanaged the country’s finances. Not too aside this will materialize.

Here are some indisputable facts about Dominica’s dire debt situation. In 2004 when Roosevelt was catapulted at the head of the regime, the national debt was $315M 86.16% of GDP. In 2022, the national debt has ballooned to $678M a 104.79% of GDP. The ideal Debt-to-GDP ratio, recommended by financial experts, is any thing below 60%.
Financial growth of a prosperous country should primarily be driven by the private and not the public sector as in Dominica. The country is in a dark financial abyss. A national debt of 104% to GDP is acutely alarming.
