Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, DAH, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has successfully concluded her first official overseas engagement.
According to a press release from the Office of The President, the two-day visit to the French Department of Guadeloupe, which took place from December 13 to December 15, 2023, was the first overseas engagement for President Burton since assuming office. The visit was made upon an invitation extended by Dr. Pierre Sainte-Luce, a prominent businessman and President of the Arawak Beach Resort.
The highlight of the visit was President Burton’s participation as a special guest at the unveiling of a fresco at the Arawak Beach Resort. The fresco symbolizes the establishment of close and cordial relations between the Arawak Beach Resort and the Kalinago community of Guadeloupe and Dominica. Kalinago Chief Lorenzo Sanford and representatives of the Kalina Gwada Association were also present at the ceremony.
During her visit, President Burton had the opportunity to meet and hold discussions with senior government officials of Guadeloupe, various media personnel, cultural and medical professionals, entrepreneurs, and the Kalina Gwada Association. These discussions are expected to further strengthen the friendly and fruitful relations between Dominica and Guadeloupe, and explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation in areas such as arts and culture, health, trade, tourism, and entrepreneurship.
President Burton was accompanied on her official overseas engagement by her spouse Gilbert, President’s Aide-de-Camp, Inspector Valda Powell, and President’s Secretary, Miss Donille Blackmoore. During her absence, the office of President was held by retired Business Manager, Mrs. Nathalie Sampson.
“This visit to Guadeloupe will help to further strengthen the very friendly and fruitful relations which have long existed between Dominica and the neighbouring French territory of Guadeloupe, and also provides the opportunity to explore new and better means to improve and deepen bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit in areas such as arts and culture, health, trade, tourism and entrepreneurship,” the press release stated.
Why all this “shock /horror”? You all know the President is a puppet of RS. She must do what she is told – Savarin did exactly that did so well from being a good boy :).
And you can complain all you want. This will do nothing. She will stay in position just like her predecessor did despite the heat.
Get used to being RS slaves – that’s our destiny!
A call for the resignation of the President of Dominica. She should quit this post immediately and we should be seeking more qualified people not this retired business women that she meet.
What is this are people taking this sitting or standing. Opposition. should be on this and trying to call for a parliament seating to discuss this and ask for her to resign.

Let us not get carried away with our political selves. What makes this an official visit when you are on business trip organized by a hotel owner. They have been there all the time and. never invited or did business us? What is up with this. Our President is not a business person.

If this woman went on an official visit to Guadeloupe, one would expect it to be on government to government business!
How could she have gone on first official overseas engagement, while at the time we are reading her visit was made on invitation extended by some Pirre Sante Luce some business man president of some Arawak Resor, and not the government of Guadalupe?
Is Pirre the government of Guadalupe or the Resort government of Guadalupe property?
If it’s not as I presume it to be, as long as she was invited by a private individual she was a two guest of her friend, acquaintance, associate or perhaps business partner!
Nevertheless; that can’t be classified as government official engagement.

The president forgot she had sworn in a Minister of Trade and Foreign Affairs who these type of things fall under his portfolio.
