The Cabinet has approved the implementation of new bus fares and taxi rates in accordance with Section 3:2 (a) of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act #17 of 1993.
The approved schedule of fares will take effect from March 15, 2023. The Dominica Transport Board made submissions to a Cabinet Task Force based on recommendations from the Airport Taxi Operators Association for increased taxi rates for plying the Douglas Charles Airport routes; and from representatives of bus drivers’ associations for increases in fares for buses travelling routes island-wide.
The Cabinet decision seeks to regularize fares which have been in effect for some time, particularly on the airport route.
The Transport Board, using the approved schedule of fares of 2008 as a benchmark, recommended increases in bus fares ranging from $1.00 to $1.50 for longer routes from Roseau to communities across the island and $0.25 to $0.75 for shorter routes and inter-villages.
Please fix the error, Colihaut is before Bioche if taking a bus form Rosesu and therefore should be corrected as follows;
Roseau to Colihaut $6.50
Roseau to Bioche $7.00
Bus drivers and Bioche passengers sre being unreasonable and the Colihaut passengers are literally paying the price. This is unfair obviously.
Because this is a Government issues statement the bus drivers and the Bioche believe they are in ‘their right’ by acting like they don’t know that it was a mistake but this is a big typo that is stirring up big problems. This needs to be addressed.
Accept my sympathy Jonathan Y St.Jean.Instead of posting BS about Skerrit pack your bags, come back to Dominica to rest. You will be 71 this month, you are in no position to tell the double, double what to do.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, government policies allowed bus drivers and taxi-drivers to gouge hard working visitors who had covid. Now that the good time finish, you’re left with no other choice, but to raise prices to account for the shortfall in monthly revenue. “Penny-wise and future foolish.” That’s the Dominica Labor Pary’s Motto underneath the leadership of Vince, Rayburn and Skerrit.
Roseau to Anse de mai from $10 in 2008 to $10.50 in 2023. You mean a 5% increase in 15 years? That surely must be a joke. How much has fuel gone up in the same time, the price of electricity, not to mention grocery shopping. I know people are struggling because of that but to take it out on bus drivers like this is plain wicked. Why bus fares must be controlled when we have no such thing on prices in the shops or taxis. I mean EC$200 from Melville Hall to Roseau and I hear U.S.$70 from Skerrit’s Kempinski to Roseau. Why don’t we have control on that?
No taxi in Dominica has a meter so really the passenger does not know whether he is being ripped off or not. Dominica is truly like the Wild West, unregulated except if you are a bus driver of course. Government just going for the low hanging fruit.
Question 1: how comes the present price from Roseau to Canefield is $2.50, and from Roseau to Fondcole is $2.00, but the price from Fondcole to Canefield is $2.00 and not $0.50? (the equation is wrong, we have a mathematical problem).
Question 2: why after stating the price for Loubiere, the bus drivers stated on social media that they will be charging higher for Wall House? (the don’t obey you, they’re the real gangsters)
Question 3: If the bus fare is affected by the rise and fall in gas/oil prices, why isn’t the rise and fall also reflected in the bus fares?
Question 4: If we have a standard for buses and a bus code, why do bus drivers dress improperly, talk impolitely, and never/rarely ever turn on the airconditioning for the local passengers, but always dress properly and talks politely and always blasts the ac for tourists? (double standard noted)
Question 5: If the cost of living rises, but our salary doesn’t, howe can we afford such prices?
I can find no mention of bus fares to Roger, Antrim, Sylvania and Pont Casse.
How are ordinary citizens going to afford the increase in bus fare. The government ministers always can find money to increase their salaries, however the double bubble only gives a lump sum payment to civil servants and the unions have been emasculated to the point that leadership looks out for their political party more than the real interest of membership. No wonder there is a huge increase in vehicles in the country which prides itself as the “Nature Isle”. The environmental damage being caused by the massive increase in exhaust fumes loaded with pollutants can’t be a healthy thing for the country in the medium to long term. Serious consideration must be given to addressing this dichotomy. This one man government doesn’t have enough brain power and capacity to resolve the complex issues involved.
Where does that UWP Jacka live? Last year 2022 the minimum wage was increased by almost 100%.The minimum wage was increased, but the bus fare remained the same.If you want another minimum wage increase in 2023 it’s ok.Only an ignorant person would ask that question. From my investigation two security companies, one owned by two security officers and the other by a union boss are not paying the $8.00 minimum wage to their security officers.
So when is the minimum wage going to increase to accommodate the price changes?
This raise in bus fares will adversely affect the purchasing power of the working poor. Do bus drivers really deserve an increase in bus fares? Yes, they do.
What is most needed is a reasonable top-up in wages and salaries that heartless Roosevelt stubbornly refuses to give civil servants. If the maladministration can find the money to pay twenty six cabinet members, $64K monthly rent for Lying Roosevelt, to finance globe trotting by ministers, it can surely find the money to pay civil servants a well needed increase.
More nonsense from a deranged and obsessed Skeritt hater.
