Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the much-talked-about Marina for Portsmouth will take place on May 25, this year. He made the announcement during Parliament on Monday.
The vision for a marina has always been in the plans for the development of Portsmouth and the Cabrits.
Portsmouth is considered to have the best geographical and natural amenities for a marina.
“Another major project, we will have a groundbreaking ceremony by the Grace of God on [Saturday] May 25, for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Marina in Portsmouth,” he revealed.
Prime Minister Skerrit also mentioned plans for a Marina in the Roseau South Constituency.
“We started discussing that already,” he stated.
Furthermore, he said there will also be the construction of a cruise village and a new cargo port that will be placed at the Canefield Industrial Site.
“When we get these things, the marina, the international airport, geothermal coming in, the cruise ship village, the new cargo port with the modern technology that you require, and all of these hotels that we are building finally opened, all we need is for us to work together,” Skerrit said.
He encouraged everyone to work together.
“We will not always agree, but let us work together,” he encouraged. “Let us be positive, let us be constructive, let’s not seek to undermine this country’s efforts, because at the end of the day, as you recognize, when a storm comes everyone is affected.”
Will the Morroco white elephant be part of the marina?

The Marina will have a dual purpose, civilian and Chinese navy base. Most of the construction will be by Chinese workers disguised as local civilians.

Maybe God knows more about this than I do. The last I heard about “talks” to construct a marina at Portsmouth was over ten years ago. But it would appear that I’ve been living under a rock and that things have moved on since then. I’ve even missed seeing a Dubai inspired artist’s rendition of the Marina.
Certainly, a safe hurricane haven at Portsmouth would be welcome. It’s one thing to attract cruising sailors (I avoid the term “yachties”) in the winter months, but the real financial benefit to Dominica would be from maintaining and caretaking their precious boats during the hurricane season.
That objective, will take more that the installation of shoreside finger piers in a bay exposed to the west. I hope therefore, that a well-equipped boatyard with haul-out facilities, together with a highly skilled workforce, is on the agenda.
More nonsense. Have they even done the EIA. Who was the contract to construct awarded to? Was there a public tendering process? Where are the plans for the public to see? Who will own this Marina? How is it being paid for? Now, for those of us who have travelled and know what a real Marina looks like, lets hope that what they decide to give us is not just a few islets with a shop that sells bakes and chicken. A proper Marina should have a boat yard, refuelling, washing and repair facilities, marine and boat chandlers (supply and equipment dealers), stores and restaurants. A proper marina should have ground facilities like parking lots for vehicles and boat trailers. Slipways (or boat ramps (more than one)) to transfer a trailered boat into the water to name a few amenities of a proper Marina. However i do not expect much from these people. they lack class and creativity.

Despite being in a loose group party he also sneaks his nose into other parties. He knows what he is indicating, and I also believe that a snap election is at our doorsteps. Mark my words

Marina in Portsmouth, Roseau renewal, geothermal energy, international airport, world’s longest cable car, sprucing up of the Botanical Gardens, a new state of the art athletic stadium – Dominica is poised to become the envy of the Caribbean. All these are shovel ready projects.
These are reasons for massive celebrations if only Roosevelt was not such a notorious, compulsive LIAR.
Skerrit knows the people of Dominica are fed up with him so he has to try to steal another election before he is kicked out. So he ready to break ground for everything so people will say let’s give him another chance. But people wake up because by now you all should Skerrit.
So I call on the opposition to get ready for an election this year. Put candidates and caretakers in place in every community. Have at least two public meetings a month in every constituency because we can’t take more of that nonsense of Skerrit. To many of our young people are dying because of a state of the art hospital that doesn’t have antibiotics to save a person. Too many are committing suicide because they can’t take more. Too many are running from our country because Skerrit has no plans for them. More of our people are dying than babies being born. Pleas help save Dolminica as we call on God to please help us and deliver us from the Evil One!!!
It seems to me that Skerrit’s vision for Portsmouth and Dominica is like a drunk man going to bed drunk and he gets up dreaming of something crazy and when he gets up he wants to implement that crazy dream without any sense of direction or cohesiveness. So he goes to bed and he dreamed of a coffee plant and got up working on it without a plan. Then he got up next day and dreamed of a Moroccan hotel and immediately dumped millions on building it and training people but no plans of opening it. He went to bed again and dreams of getting rid of Ross and next day Ross was gone. He went to bed again and dreams of a Marina and went to the parliament to announce a date to start building one without any plans for it just as we see with the abattoir, international airport, geothermal plant, Kempinski hotel, Windsor park to the point that we were given an opportunity to host WC but he lost it. Yes billions being dumped but nothing to show for sustainability. Just money dumping sites

On the other hand, Skerrit is not accusing people of criticizing……he saying that he agrees everyone will not have de same opinion and agree on everything but we must work together
