The Government of Dominica is making serious headway for athletes in the area of track and field development, referring to a facility slated to be constructed in Point Ronde.
This was disclosed by Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, Oscar George, as a guest on Focus on Government and Development recently.
“I think it’s time we make some serious headway for our track athletes, so I think this project is very timely for our track athletes,” he said. “This project will consist of a 400-meter synthetic track, we will have a practice track, we will have amenities, we will have office space, parking, we will have lights and provisions for all the different types of track events.”
Furthermore, George said a survey has to be done before making headway.
“We would have to look at the watercourses, we would have to look at utilities, parking space, the soil test, all these things we have to do and is currently ongoing,” he noted.
According to George, the Ministry of Sports has been leading in that regard, “in terms of doing all the assessments and having conceptual designs for this.”
“And of course, it will require a lot of earth movement,” he explained. “All this is being worked on in terms of estimates as to how much earth we will need to move to ensure we have a flattened surface and where exactly we will put the court in terms of the specific location on the ground.”
First of all, that proposed location is ABSOLUTE NONSESE!!!! Of all places? That is like the housing project all you put on the hill by purple turtle. That place should have been for restaurants and tourism. WASTE! All you destroying everywhere with majee!!! So who going to go to point round to do sports when all you can just develop the Benjamin’s park, closer to where people live?
You first need to locate ,aquire and pay for land to do this not go on private property and start excavation work without land oweners permission.
Do things in accordance with how things are done.
We have better roads now. Pointe Round is the perfect place to build this track. It will be away from congestion and it will include parking and other much needed amenities for our athletes. We are much too narrow minded with this Roseau mentality. This facility will signal the beginning of future development for this area. Build it!
Feller you talking absolute nonsense. they can do that at Benjamin’s park. there is ample space. Waste of land to do that at point round. We need to think about our future, not just doing thing vai ki vai without how we will function 20 years down the line.
Who care about what you think.Who are you.Where are you from. What have to contributed to the development of Dominica?Based on your idiotic comment you are part of the failed UWP,who was kicked out of power by Dominicans for corruption, victimization, lying and greed.Dominica has produced 4 Westindies cricket players,to made the team but did not play.Chi Chi Bang Bang is going to be on your chest for a very long time.Long enough to crack your ribs and puncture your organs.
Too far from your main or heavy population centers where most of your athletes reside, mainly concentrated in the South of the island. You need to get more bang for the buck, more use of the facility for all the money proposed. Think future, not simply to big up the North, make a secondary one at Point Round for use in case the main one experience issues. Go big for the future.
One of our biggest problem in Dominica is we must find a way to criticize It’s far it’s to small to far from what. Should we build everything in or near Roseau? Is time we learn to commute? No where is to far unless you are planning to walk other country’s. Are progressing while we are explaining every thing we do. Again no where is to far there’s always transportation. That’s how we progress pay a bus.
I beg to differ.
An understanding of the value of objective criticism is what we sorely lack. It benefits the receiver far better than saying nothing at all.
Thank you kindly Mr. Burnette. Ignorant people will never see the value of criticism. Instead they constantly think it is an attack. This proposed idea is absolute nonsense. IT would be much better received in the south. The place will be severely underutilized and possibly not maintained to standard. Makes no sense to me. Its like doing things just to say you did things but they were absolutely unsuitable and did not fit. I mean if is money we have to waste i can think of a few better ways to waste it that will have much more significant return. Like creating an industrial site providing suitable adequate production and storage space that meets international standards for food and body products. We have an abundance of producers who need this all over the island.
That was also in my mind.
Most of the users will be dependant on public transport and their practice time will be after work, school or college.
Thus severely underutilizing the facility. It will be a waste.
Dominica is most likely the only country in the region wiithout such a track, and it speaks loudly to the level of abandonment of the youths by this administration. What hurts me to the core, is you all guys, Oscar George, and minister of everything, Chi-Chi Bang Bang, expect praises for that.
We already have on the international circuit myriad Jamaicans, Shellyann Frasier, super woman Shericka Jackson, Elaine Thomson…Young ones, Brianna Lyston, Brianna Williams, the Clayton twins, Serena Cole, Alana Reid, Ackrra Nugent, Kemba Nelson, etc, etc. In
St Lucia we have Julian Alfred, Grenada Kirani James, Bahamas, Trinidad Barbabos all have had. In Dominica NOBODY.
You all are wickeds and doggone failures. Shame on you hypocrites and misleaders.
You expected me to clap for that? You all have seriously truncated the hopes and aspiration of the Dominican youth. To add insult to injury, you all thought for political reasons they are free to have small portions of “ZEB” to smoke…
Ackera Nugent…Brittany Anderson as well.
