Residents of Dubique and Grandbay to receive new homes under government program

Grandbay Housing Development Center

Residents of Grandbay and Dubique will be beneficiaries of new homes under the government housing development program.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit accompanied by members of Cabinet visited the new Housing Development Center in Grandbay on Tuesday.

“As you know after [Tropical Storm] Erika we had to relocate the residents of Dubique,” he said. “Initially we built some petro casas for them, some of them were impacted by the hurricane and we decided that in our efforts to build greater resilience, that we will redevelop the community that was built for the Dubique residents and so we have in excess of 40 homes for the residents of Dubique, [a] combination of 2 and 3 bedrooms.”

Recognizing, in addition, the housing need in Grandbay, the government made provision for 24 new homes and 10 renovated, in that community.

“So this will be allocated specifically to the residents of Grandbay,” Prime Minister Skerrit stated.

In addition to that, he said there is some land available and government is in discussion about whether the lots should be sold to individuals in Grandbay who would like to build their own homes, “or whether we should do an addition of building the homes and sell them to some of the residents in Grandbay.”

“That is a decision we will take in the next couple weeks,” Skerrit said.

Furthermore, he said there is in addition to the housing a community centre being built that will include a hurricane shelter with all of the supporting amenities.

“And we are also building a standalone magistrate court and it will be utilizing the space as existing in the police station,” Skerrit revealed.

Do we know how many people in Dominica? Why are we just allowing the government to just build houses so that they then have to find people to put in them? money laundering at its finest.

What about fond St Jean and fab even bagatelle. These people love skerrit all they see is the red of labour and this is the most deprived villagees in the whole of Dominica. They keep voting for labour and the labour party has done nothing for this people. The PMs wife is from this village but nothing is done to develop this community. I give credit to the labour party for the work they are doing in other parts of Dominica 🇩🇲. But so sad nothing in fond St Jean, fab or even Bagatelle.

Do you know that there are Dominicans still living under tarpauline from since the last hurricane?
Should we not prioritise those individuals wherever they may be across the island instead of the Labour party political milage scoring in certain villages?

Who is “we?” Whose responsibility is it to house them? Whatever happened to their families? Does anyone owe them a house? F&*k no! Why don’t you go collect coins in a tin to help put a roof over their heads? You scream about “political mileage” then ask “we” to make more political mileage but in another direction. What a breed!!

Even if it’s been about a year now but it’s all good. Unlike last time be sure to do the road proper and drainage for them before opening. After all, is the decent thing to do in modern times so that they won’t have to walk in mud to home every rain fall.

Skerrit is to Dominica what the Pharaohs used to be to Egypt. They and their friends and family live in absolute luxury and throw the left overs to their subjects. Isn’t it time Dominica dispose of that lot. They are of NO use to you or our country.

You need to read. Not Pharoahs in Egypt but presidents and PMs in Britain and America whose rich friends and family live in absolute luxury at the expense of the poor without paying taxes.

As soon as the wind blows in his face, he promises more of those card box houses that have a live span of approximately 5 years. But his supporter will shout: progress and I want one!!

    ELECTORAL REFORM IS NEEDED!!!
The community of Dubique is located in the center of Grandbay for sometime now.
What the HELL are the Dubique constituents still voting in the Petite Savanne Constituency for??
They should be voting in the Grandbay constituency..After all, they are domiciled in the center of Grandbay. They should vote in the constituency where they live.
DOMINICA NEEDS comprehensive ELECTORAL REFORM WITH DISPATCH!!!

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 7 Thumb down 9

You must have had really poor grades for composition or maybe poor grades overall. When you write, relevance to topic is very important. This falls under content and content is a considerable portion of the grade. I guess there was no literature on Google to read like you did for the Ukraine matter and pretending to be an international politics expert.
For your own good calm down since most readers here just see you as bitter. Notice how Ibo gets his points across intelligently. 😂
