The United Workers Party (UWP) is planning a major economic forum to showcase a master plan for the economy. Leader of the UWP, Dr. Thomson Fontaine who was delivering remarks at a UWP press conference earlier this week said the forum is expected to be held in June of this year.
“We are planning a major economic forum with not just members of UWP-Team Dominica, but we are looking to involve business persons within the agricultural sector, tourism sector, and private sector,” he said. “We are also looking to involve government officials as well.”
He continued, “The plan is to really showcase a masterplan for the economy, one that will revive the economy, one that will provide jobs and attract foreign direct investments into Dominica, so that’s what we plan to do.”
Dr. Fontaine hopes the general public will be able to participate as well. One aspect of the plan is to expose the different products made here in Dominica.
“We will have an exhibition that showcases what is being manufactured here in Dominica and really give an opportunity to bring together both possible investors and those who want to do business in Dominica,” he explained. “Because what we are really trying to do even outside of government is to do something that can stimulate some form of economic activity.”
Dr. Fontaine believes that presently Dominica’s economy is in a very poor state, “people are hurting and they are suffering and the more jobs that can be created [the better].”
In terms of a presenters list, he said the party will be targeting some key persons in the different sectors of the economy which include the hotel sector, the tourism industry, and business owners.
“We are looking at really making it a huge event that can really be impactful in terms of bringing some focus on Dominica’s economy,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the UWP leader indicated that the party will hold a massive public meeting this Sunday, (February 25) in the vicinity of the Arch in Roseau to bring awareness to the many issues that confront Dominica.
According to him, given the number of challenges faced by the country, he is calling on Dominicans to stand up and be counted.
“This is a task which requires the input of every Dominican both at home and abroad regardless of political affiliation,” he noted.
Dr. Thomson concluded, “Let us work together to build our beautiful country.”
The meeting is expected to begin at 3:00pm.
That guy Thomson Fontaine, should be in his country Sudan trying to help with the starvation of his people, instead of boffin his way into things he knows nothing about with a so-called certificate that was brought at Walmart store for 10 dollars ha ha ha.
Dominica should be fully self sufficient in poultry, beef, pork, mutton and fish. For the country to achieve this goal, all it needs is proper planning, good management and the right incentives to empower local livestock farmers and fishers.

I don’t think it’s a wise idea to include Roosevelt, or any of his puppet’s into this, all they will do is sabotage anyone idea that remotely to bring some economic change to the country.
This should be regarded as a continuous war between Roosevelt who is the enemy of Dominica, and the people who oppose him. Any good idea or proposal to revive and reverse out of the damage Roosevelt has done to the country should be presented to the nation in a simple educational way that can make people understand there is a better way than the sale of passports.
Secondly, the people in the judiciary are all Roosevelt lapdogs, and yard fouls, they are not interested in justice, hence; they all do his bidding, they will keep the bogus charges, to be utilized when it is convenient to deviate the attention to anything they believe will stimulate an uprising to either vote or overthrow Roosevelt out of office.

Honestly speaking,Dominica has the enormous potential to be the food basket and the economic power house of the Caribbean. I have not a scintilla of doubt about this.
Dominica has the favourable climate and conditions for agriculture to thrive. The country is well endowed with arable soil, an abundance of water, all year round sunshine and a youthful population.
Why then is the growth of the agriculture sectors so sluggist? It’s evident! Lack of visionary leadership and strategic planning. Fierce partisan politics has stifled our overall growth.
We need revolutionary governance in these challenging times, a paradigm shift in our thinking. The antiquated way of governance where those in power feel like they are both omnipotent and omniscient. They act as though they have a monopoly on ideas at the detriment of the populace.
The sooner there is a new, vibrant and inclusive government to steer the Ship of State to higher heights.

Looking forward to Thomo also showcasing the list of investors and the funding streams that will be available for his master plan at this economic forum. I suspect he will still be talking about passports sales for funding which is what they have been trying to bring down at every opportunity they get. Talk is cheap but delivering is always the challenge and no plans can come into fruition without committed funding streams.
I know it is difficult for you to understand since for 20yrs you been told if not CBI then what but I have news for you, St Vincent which had the lowest GDP per capita in the OECS does not sell passports and have now passed Dominica, in fact next time you do your shopping at the supermarket half your money goes to St Vincent. The CBI if was managed properly could have done wonders for Dominica but you have an idiot for a leader who surrounded himself with people who are even more stupid then himself if that is even possible. To say that the Dominican economy is in a very POOR state is an understatement. Many,many, many people just do not have anything. Begging is rampant in both Roseau and the country districts. People (including those that are working),can’t pay their bills in full,they cant buy proper nutrition, many can’t go to a private doctor, it’s just a mess..However, the greedies in government and their passport selling surrogates are not included. They have $$$$$$in excess. Skerrit is a wicked man, and one day he shall have lots of questions to answer.
More than just the economic forum, UWP has to do a better selling job to convince people that their lives will be better under a UWP administration. They have not done that.
