24 teachers appointed, more in coming weeks, says Saint Jean

Twenty-four more teachers have been appointed into the country’s education system.

Minister for Education Petter Saint Jean made the announcement during the World Teacher’s Day ceremony held at the North East Comprehensive School on Friday.

According to St Jean, in a week or two the government will announce another set of names that are currently being approved.

“My ministry has submitted a list of 76 teachers who have been serving this country from a period of 5 or more years to the establishment personal department for their appointments. I have been reliably informed that 24 of these names have been approved, 52 are still pending,” he said.

He said if teachers are to create a dent on the economic landscape of the country and to actively engage in the development of the Commonwealth of Dominica, teachers must be given a sense of security as far as their engagement is concerned.

Saint Jean has been a former teacher for 24 years.

Friday was World Teacher’s Day under the theme: “Young Teachers. The Future of the Profession”.

I listened to skerrit speak on the issue of teachers claiming the lack of vacancies as to why most teachers have not been appointed. This is such a backward point of view since the capacity of most schools have augmented so to should its staff! Moreover at the launching on the Newtown savanna it was stated that all who were not appointed were to be appointed the following day over a hundred persons. The society is what we as a people accept!

As a teacher, you are parents, guardian, mother father, some children never open a book at home, no home training, fatherless, motherless, and when they get to school all need attention, yet parents come and give them a mouth full.Time is of essense, and time is money. They stick to their task for the love of country. Bravo teachers, you are a great assets for your country. To the others, old habits die hard.

Why wait to appoint more in the coming weeks, this doesn’t make sense at all. This Government will try all kinds of shit to win the elections. Continue to play with the people minds still, use dirty psychology on the poor people still and think we don’t realize. We are poor for now and very intelligent. Time will tell. What goes around comes around, what goes up must come down.

Congratulations to all the teachers and well done to the government. Patience is virtue. One may attend university, college and do the theory but, until you do the practical, you will never be employed. Dominica cannot speak, so everybody hide behind Dominica, A country is as good as the people who live in there. If the PM IS GIVING AWAY MONEY which he is not, he is sharing from the gifts that he received. got it.

There is no visionary nor strategic planning with this misadministration. Everything that they do is squarely centred around Skerrit’s political survival. There only plan is to use the State’s money to bribe the unsuspecting voters with ‘Cool Out’ giveaways, the Red Clinic, the puzzling housing scheme and now the appointment of teachers to the civil service. What Dominica needs is a fresh start, a new dispensation, a party in power that will be people oriented. The DLP is self serving. Look at the enormous wealth they have accumulated for themselves while the overwhelming majority of Dominicans are catching HELL. How many Dominicans can comfortably pay their monthly utility bills; their rent or mortgage; food bills; lunches for their school aged children, etcetera. Something has to change. Life in Dominica for the ordinary man, woman and child has become unbearably hard. Time for a REFRESHING CHANGE!

What academic credentials do they have other than the time served and above all
What are their timekeeping skills like? If you can’t show up on time and do your job, don’t expect to be paid a full wage. As role models they should be on time, teaching their students that being late has no consequences carries over and over.

Why do I get the feeling that these teachers could have been appointed five or more years ago? Mr. Minister you all should stop playing politics with our professionals. Shame on you being a past teacher for 24 years only appointing these teachers because general election is around the corner. Again I say shame!

This is cruelty and evil to the highest degree. This is like holding people future and career hostage for years and them just because election is near you make appointment to gain favour. What is the process to appointments. I bet the teachers deserve but the way our country goes about this is pure malicious and evil. These are the men who call gods name in thier ploy to corrupt our institutions. I will never understand how our folks so easily used and abused. St.jean face like a snake oil sales man. These people expression alone shows thier malicious intentions. Anyone who working for government for more than 5 years without appointment should sue. I found out there are folks who taught with me 20 years ago in highschool not appointed but they there like some retards i love my party. We cannot be so foolish to be used in this way.

Before Mr. Skerrit became a politician, he was a teacher who worked for maybe $2500 a month, his salary now should be about $7500 a month. Mr. Skerrit is not wealthy on his own. He is not rich on his own. Labourites, where do you think Mr. Skerrit is withdrawing the money he uses to give you all favours? 😒
It’s our money he’s using! Dominica’s money, it’s not his! Don’t you get that? Can’t you see what he is doing is wrong? This money should be used to pay teachers, police, nurses to benefit all of Dominica, not to be used to give coolouts! Maybe you see, but you just don’t care.

  Thank you Mr. Pepper for finally giving due respect to those who mold society. A little too late to keep you all in office since everything is upside down but that is a victory for DPSU and the hard working, sacrificing teachers of the land. Now pepper, I hope you don’t say Skerrit is a AS for doing that now because he thinks they will vote for him 8-O . Remember I am only advising you NOT to say that because you have a niceeeeee way of paying Skerrit back for kicking you to the side. And, I loveeeeeee it

No editor. “24 new teachers were not added to the country’s education system”. These teachers were given justice only after FIVE years!!! And they appointed the smaller number. As a teacher himself, Mr. Saint Jean should be ashamed to make this statement. And what about those who have been there for more than 5 years??

St Jean you are so shameless and “”Skerritically”” useless… 24 is not yet half of 76…You should be ashamed to come in front of the hard working teachers to tell them that 24 out of 76 teachers are appointed and the rest are pending… That’s you all DLP MISLEADERS trick. You all do it with houses and everything else. Wait your turn it will come!!Just vote for the evil DLP!!

Shut your backpack % and Views express, while you are trying to create havoc and criticizing everything, you cannot tell us what you a going to do differently from what is being done. The DLP has set goals and they are accomplishing them. You Lenox Linton calls a news conference daily to put down the people, who are actually building the nation. Take a look at the above writing, the words are of a 5 grader yet that individual wants to stand in front of the World and represent the island of Dominica! The man lives like a parasite 🦠 with nothing constructive to offer. His followers listens daily to his pit toilet rethrotic, therefore he will continue. Lenox how are you going to enhance the standard of living for all Dominicans.? As you have stated in many derogatory terms about the illnesses that exists in our country, how will you change the healthcare, education and to advance out nation to the 21st. Century. Typical of a CON ARTIST to show you how rich and rewarding life could be.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Teachers. FINALLY!! This was a woefully and excruciatingly long wait but the Ministry must still be commended for at least finally alleviating such a plight.

I noticed one other thing – Minister St. Jean said, “I have been reliably informed that 24 of these names have been approved, 52 are still pending,”.

Sir, you must not just be reliably informed. YOU OUGHT TO KNOW – it is your Ministry. So in future it is best to say, ” Having conferred with my advisers and technical personnel, I am informing you (or I can inform you) that 24 of these names have been approved, 52 are still pending”.

I hope you do not mind a little heads-up on media interaction.

Meanwhile, great with the appointments but keep them coming until every last one of these teachers are appointed. Success and congrats to the teachers.

Skerrit and his loyal parrots should hang their collective heads in everlasting shame. So many teachers and civil servants have been denied their right to an appointment for much too long. Consequently, they were financially short changed for years. These set of teachers should be fully compensated by paying them retroactively after the date of their appointment. The law clearly states that after one year of work in the civil service that person should be appointed. This move, as usual, is nothing but a political stunt. It’s the same anachronistic style of politics. General Election drawing nigh so let’s bamboozle the gullible electors with housing schemes, a few roads, appointments to the civil service, testing for geothermal energy, and make them a plethora of fanciful promises that we can’t fulfill. That’s the cunning strategy of this morally and ethically reprehensible party, the DLP. VOTE THEM OUT for they have lost their way. They are leading the people aimlessly.

Aren’t you all fed up of the temporary, temporary, temporary jobs under this DLP? Temporary teaching job? temporary NEP work?
Vote for real jobs! Permanent jobs you can stay with till you retire. Real jobs that will help you secure a loan or credit. Vote for the UWP, the workers party. You will get work.
