A 13-year-old among five in custody for rape in Antigua

A 13-year-old boy is among five teenagers held by police in connection with the brutal rape of a 46-year-old woman.

The government reported Thursday during its weekly press conference that five suspects are in custody for raping a 46-year-old woman on May 15 – one is 13, two are 15, and two are 17 years old.

According to reports, the woman, while walking home from work recently was attacked by the younger who demanded her valuables.

When they searched her bag and her person, they realized she had nothing of value.

They then dragged her into the bushes and raped her.

But it is not clear whether these minors will face any jail time.

According to the country’s Child Justice Act of 2015, minors under age 12 cannot be held liable for criminal offences, but minors over 14 are liable to spend no more than three years in prison if “the offence for which the child is convicted is an offence listed under Schedule III, or murder or treason”, and if  “substantial and compelling reasons exist for imposing a sentence of imprisonment, which may include a previous failure to respond to alternative sentences, including sentences with a residential element and where the court imposing sentence considers that no other sentence is appropriate.”

Children between 12 and 13 cannot receive jail time but are liable to receive other types of sentences such as referral to counselling.

Antigua and Dominica have a lot in common as far as crime is concerned and Alibaba and the Brown paper bag must be the reason for all of this crime

Antigua & Barbuda and Dominica are headed by two rogues. Therefore, it logically follows that there can be no alarm that these two countries are in profound economic and social quagmire.

These twin brothers in corruption are only interested in hemorrhaging the purse of their countries. Both are multi millionaires from the meagre salary of a public servant. This is creative enrichment at its best.

To the topic. Tis heinous crime which was committed by this adolescent was unthinkable a few years back. What has gone so horribly wrong today? The world is in criss.

The social decadence and the economic deprivation scream out for leadership. I am reminded of this quote – “You can’t make a tasty omelette from rotten eggs.” Brown Paper Bag and Lying Roosevelt are two rotten eggs.

I am just here thinking of what i would do, if the lady was my mother, wife, sister, sister in law, cousin, niece, etc..
I have heard that a man should never say that he can’t be jailed, and that’s 100%correct…..In a case like that, i would do what i deem necessary, and i would be jailed!!
With the advent of the internet, children are exposed to everything, and as sad as it is, the trend will continue, and innocent ones will continue to be victims! Even when ones child is properly raised at home, his interaction with others negatively impacts him! Our Caribbean societies need to refocus and find ways to lessen those vicious attacks on our people!!!
