After a long struggle, Mr. Kavem Hodge was selected to the West Indies Team and the residents of Atkinson/Antwizle are elated for such an achievement. Let us meet the man whom the people of Atkinson/Antwizle are so proud of.
He is 30 years old, from the village of Atkinson/Antwizle on the east coast. His surname is Hodge, after his dad but his family name is Laville. He went to the Atkinson Primary School and represented Dominica at the under 13,15, 19, and senior teams.
He was the second youngest player to represent Dominica at the senior level at 15 years old.
Hodge was the first West Indian to attend the Darren Lehman cricket academy in Australia on a full scholarship in 2010. However, he attended the Dominica State College and pursued a degree in Economics while playing cricket at the sports division level. He furthered his education at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (the scientific study of human body movement) in October of 2019.
During that period he captained the university senior team and was awarded best all-rounder in the Barbados Elite Division.
Kavem played for the St. Lucia Zouks and Kings in the Caribbean Premier League, and captained the Windward Island’s Senior Cricket Team in the Regional Four Day and Super50 championship.
Kavem has also represented the West Indies and was selected on the test team to tour Bangladesh in January 2021 and made his debut for the West Indies one-day international team in 2023 in Dubai.
That match was played against the UAE, a match he says he will never forget.
I did not know they do Degree in Economics at DSC. He pursue a BSc at UWI , so what degree did he pursued at DSC? An MBA, DBA, PHD, BA, BS? Please clarify.
It he pursued an Associate Degree, say so. An associate [degree] is NOT a degree, hence the word Associate.
We have to be looking at younger players…..
@Point
Who are the younger ones?
Name SIX!!
Shame he didnt get to play for us to see. Shame Dominica doesnt get much respect in West Indies selection. Is like Barbados alone that want to shine even when our players perform better.
If i can remember well, he was also a member of the West Indies 2012 Under 19 Cricket Team, together with players like:
Craigg Brathwaite
Kyle Mayers
Sunil Ambris
Anthony Alleyne
Ronsford Beaton
Justin Greaves
Amir Khan
Akeal Hosein,etc,etc..
He needs to improve his First Class average….29 is not good enough….Put bat on ball next season. Everything is not lost for you!!!
While I agree he needs to improve his first class average, WICB did not do him justice in the just concluded test. But we just have to continue to rally round our stars. Both Kaverm and Alick sre affiliated to or are closely kneated to Kalinago roots.
