Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has told the 16 families of Eggleston who were presented with keys to their new homes this week that they will receive grant title ownership at the appointed time.
He made the disclosure during the handing over ceremony of 16 apartment units held at the State House Conference Centre.
This forms part of the government’s Housing Programme.
“I want to say to you that you will receive your titles for your homes in your name at the appointed time,” he said. “Because we are giving you these new homes to empower you as citizens of this country.”
Skerrit continued, “And my hope is that one day when you get your title you can go to the bank and credit union and put this title in the credit union and take a loan and to build a small business and to empower yourself.”
He told those who are still waiting that their turn will come.
“You are closer to receiving today than you were yesterday, because we have 16 families who are no longer on the list,” he stated.
Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed out that there will always be people in society notwithstanding their best efforts will still be unable to go to the banks and the credit unions, “like you and me” to get a loan to build their homes.
“ And the question is, if these people are in need, what do we do as a government? Do I say to them that this is not a responsibility of the government? Or we use the little resources that we have to build homes for them so that their children can have hope and confidence in the future of this country, that the children can study under the lights, that their children can have access to modern washrooms, that the senior citizens no longer have to bother themselves with leaking roofs and struggling single parents at the mercies of unscrupulous landlords who rent the homes for people with no washrooms, no proper facilities,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary of Roseau South Constituency, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite said this is not the end, but part of a new beginning.
“Sixteen families will receive the keys to their modern resilient homes, which will change their lives forever,” she stated. “We received 515 applications and all of whom are deserving.”
She said her preoccupation now as Parl Rep is to review the applications, 499 of them, “and to see how best I can assist and better their circumstances.”
“ I am still mindful of the fact that the living conditions of too many people have not reached the acceptable level,” she noted. “Our government knows this. I am aware of this. Your time to join several thousands who are living in resilient homes shall come.”
Lockhart-Hypolite told the recipients that this is a pledge that she and the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has made, “an obligation which we are fulfilling.”
“We don’t promise which we cannot deliver. Our records are clear for all to see,” she noted. “Things happen in God’s own time.”
Lockhart-Hypolite added, “ To the beneficiaries, you are relieved from your burden of servicing rent. Hence your current savings can lead to the production of disposable income.”
Stockholm syndrome. Dominica know the beaten woman syndrome
” AT THE APPOINTED TIME ”
I love this !! The other one is” for people like you and ME… unable to go to the banks or credit union to get a loan. I like this one even more

WAIT STILL.
Do your ting brother Skerrit, you were sent by the spirit. Question is WHICH one ??
The easiest method for governments to hide corruption is in noncompliance procurement practices. There is no transparency nor accountability as to the verifiable cost of most of these projects.
These government owned apartments have been handed out for years exclusively to zealots of the DLP. Yet not even one of them who occupies so many of these buildings can claim ownership as they have been promised by Lying Closest and his unalphabetical, vain glorious wife.
When some promises something, if that person is serious, he will give you a definitive handing over time. The supporters who happen to occupy these houses are still dispossessed.
This is a means of entrapment. It e traps you to be an everlasting supporter of the DLP. Dare to vote for the opposition and you are summarily evicted.
What these people need are good paying ‘permanent’ jobs. Then many more citizens will be in a solid position to build and design their own houses. W
wouldn’t that be more rewarding!
Election is on the horizon and no doubt about that. They expect all recipients to vote for them and expect everyone on the list to do the same in hopes of getting a home one day. A home is a basic need and you deserve a home but don’t let anyone hold you hostage for helping you out.
If those who got keys were deserving of a shelter, good for you all.
You all will get grant title ownership at the appointed time??????????What’s that???????? Ask those from Petite Savanne living at Bellevue Chopin, what that appointed time means. Can you all solve equations?
Appointed time = NEVER. You all will never get TITLE for those houses once chief LIAR Skerrit is in office.
He even told those from Petite Savanne to throw hot water on opposition people, if they venture on Skerrit’s step, something for which the wicked soul should be arrested and charged, if we had a real police force on island. He now has his feet on your heads pressing hard. Hope you all dont carry stories to anyone on each other. This is what is obtained from those living in those houses all across Dominica.
MEME
in time to come
can someone get a title for a (building) house or for land? (Land Property) can one get a loan with the building of the property? just asking whose property it is?
One can get a loan with a registered land title. With a building on the land your quantum increases significantly.
