UPDATE (with more photos): Blaze in Newtown

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a  fire on Victoria street on Sunday which destroyed the property of businessman Reginald Burke.

According to an eyewitness, the fire which originated from the back of the building which once housed the Newtown Primary School, causing severe damage to the structure, started as a bush fire.
” It was a bush fire and since it was windy, it went out of control and no one was able to contain it,” the eyewitness said.
Burke, who uses the area as an auto repair workshop, lost everything.
“We lost all out tools, computers and the vehicles in the yard…a total loss,” Burke said.
He also expressed disappointment about the time it took the fire truck to arrive.
“It took them over an hour to get there…if they had arrived earlier, we would have saved a lot, although they quickly contained it on arrival,” he said.

It is said the house was set ablaze by a Bush fire. The house owners were either negligent or lazy. Did they ignore the dry brush around their property, feeling it was not their problem – maybe government’s? If there flammable items around my property, I should care enough to remove them to protect my property. There is a prevalent mentality in Dominica of “not my problem/duty” which sometimes comes back to bite those who harbor such feelings, as may have happened here.

Day by day we keep losing our history and you know a country or people that died not know their history is doomed to fail. I would not be surprised that is members of the same team that is bent on irradiating our history that behind that fire and strangely, these things are happening while we have a state of emergency. Before our national anthem use to be “Isle of beauty isle of splendor” but now the new norm is Isle of wonder

I suppose you also think that it is members of the same team that bring in hurricanes and earthquakes that destroy historic buildings as well.

@ eagle, I suppose you saying the man made, man designed things taking place in Dominica today should be compared to hurricanes and earthquakes? Well in nature I agree with you except that hurricanes and earthquakes have no friends or enemies to target while members of the same Evil 😈 team seem to have specific targets

SMH! Not even in the face of irreplaceable loss allu can extend a hand of sympathy; It’s always a conspiracy.
