A veteran calypsonian in Dominica is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (USI) preferred against him by the police. The adult male is accused of sexually assaulting a female girl below the age of 16.
The accused appeared before the Magistrate’s court on August 11, 2023, where the charge of USI was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea since the matter is an indictable offense expected to be tried at the High Court before a Judge and jury. Whilst bail is opened to the accused man, at the hearing he was unable to present a suitable surety
to the court and as a result, he was remanded into custody until such time.
The matter was adjourned to later this year for the start of the Preliminary Inquiry. In keeping with section 38 of Dominica’s Sexual Offences Act of 1998, Dominica News Online (DNO) is restricted from publishing the name of the accused unless he is convicted at the High Court of Justice for the alleged offense.

the fact that were hiding his name adds to the fact that this isnt his first time. Embarrass him!, Allow the public to ridicule him.. Dominica has a MASSIVE pedophile issue and it is perpetuated by the entire country. We treat these PEDOPHILES ( thats the correct term for people like this!) like its a bruise that will heal if we leave it alone.. We need to start changing the culture around Rape/Grooming ( thats what it is) in Dominica before its too late.
What about the allegation of unlawful sexual contact between a female minor and the then parl. rep. From the Soufriere/Scots Head constituency. People want to know if the laws of Dominica are for one set to follow?
This problem of unlawful carnal knowledge is a deep seated, perennial problem in Dominica. Why are these adult men depriving our baby daughters of their innocence? Allow them to mature.
Mandatory twenty five (25)years should be the minimum sentence if these beast-like perpetrators are found guilty by a jury of their peers.There are enough adult women in society to appease your sensual desires.

I know this guy who messed around with his 8 year old cousin and he has been on remand for the better part of a year. I am a believer of innocence until proven guilty, but he cannot afford to post bail, so he is behind bars.
In the meantime, we also heard of 2 politicians and a radio man allegedly messed around with an under-aged girl. These guys are going about their businesses as if nothing happened. My bet is that, this case will never see the light of day.
As much as I want to see these guys serve severe time for their misdeeds, all I ask for is for everyone to be treated equally under the law. That does not appear to be the case in Dominica.

Agreed! I have often lament the fact that in Dominica every organ of government is severely corrupt including the justice system. I repeat for the 110th time, when the head of a government is corrupt the whole society becomes corrupt. This is precisely the case here.
The landscape of Dominica is littered with cases of INJUSTICE. Almost every citizen in Dominica has a relative who has suffered because of the bias and corruption of this crooked justice system.
If we were to list the number of airtight cases that have escaped conviction, or dismissed for want of prosecution, it would be infinite.

Allegedly, he has done this in Dominica before with absolute impunity. He proceeded to add insult to injury by blatantly shaming his young victim and her family with his song. But there is the old adage, ” day does run until night catch up with it.” Hope the law catches up with him this time.
