LIAT has been advised that a passenger who travelled on one of its services has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.
At the time of travel, the passenger did not present any symptoms at check-in or onboard. The passenger tested positive several days later for the virus.
While the assessment from public health authorities is that the risk of exposure is low, LIAT has taken immediate measures to ensure the safety of all its stakeholders. In accordance with procedures and in consultation with the public health authorities, LIAT has taken the crew members from the flight off duty and they are currently in self-quarantine.
We have ensured that the aircraft was cleaned in keeping with global cleaning standards. In addition, we have taken the additional measure of having the aircraft deep cleaned and sanitized using processes outlined by the authorities and the aircraft
manufacturer.
LIAT has been in contact with the relevant public authorities and has complied with their request for information on the affected flight. This is in keeping with the standard protocol.
LIAT’s COVID-19 Project Team has been in contact with the various Health Authorities and Airports in our network and continues to monitor the situation closely.
LIAT will continue to work to ensure the safety of our customers and employees as this situation with COVID-19 evolves.

This report was absolutely stupid!!! It said or did nothing but generate anxiety. Why was the involved flight kept a secret? Where did the passenger travel from and to where? Even if the report said nothing it creates room for speculation! Surely, DNO you should avoid publishing such folly, we expect better from you.
What purpose is served with the secrecy? How do I know that my neighbour was not the involved passenger? How does this secret help to contain the disease? If you believe this helps the process, please explain? I am lost!!

Clayton, Matt Peltier called Q yesterday morning and told us of a BA flight from London to Antigua that had a an infected person on board. Now, if you fly from London to Antigua to connect with Liat is not Barbados you going or St. lucia are you because you would fly there direct. Not even T&T or Grenada you would travel that way. But Dominica is one destination that have a same day connection from London with British Airways via Liat, so it is logical for people to speculate. It would be better for the authorities to be precise and if the flight was not going to Dominica say so.

I don’t wish to be a scaremonger – the reality is that this Chinese virus (not saying Coronavirus anymore – it is the Chinese virus) is very likely to remain to spread for the rest of the year. IF a vaccine is found, it’s a vaccine – not a cure. Vaccines work by infecting you with a milder form so you create antibodies to fight it. Now, can the elderly handle that?
